"I can draw the venom back out of an afflicted creature and save them, if I so choose," Urasina said casually, grinning slightly at Simi's reaction. "Just try not to make me mad, OK?" This last line was said in an obviously teasing manner. Doe's reaction, though, made her go silent. Hero worship was something she got quite often, but it never failed to make her feel uneasy, like she didn't deserve it. She was a very modest Uni, and high praise always made her uncomfortable, even when it came from her human. She was about to respond to Liin when she spotted another trap tile. "Doe, focus," she warned the other Uni. "We're not out of the woods yet; there's still traps here." She placed a barrier of Light on the tile so it wouldn't go off should someone step on it. "At this point- like you said, Liin- the traps seem to be more 'ceremony' than anything else. That shadowy moat would stop anything that can't teleport."

Simi still stayed a bit further away from the mare with the spikes, feeling like she was teetering on edge with her. "I'll try my best to not make you mad," she insisted.
Doe smiled. "Oh, I'm always focused. Which is why I'm a bit worried about this particular corridor we're in." She hummed a little note, and listened for the tune again. She blushed a little, the light of her blood causing her cheeks to brighten a bit. "Oh. So. Has anyone else noticed we've sort of been going in a circle, but the circle isn't getting any narrower?"
"A labyrinthine illusion? Or is it a spatial shift?" Doe understood the first part of Aerlliin's sentence, but Liin caught on that nobody knew what she meant by 'spatial shift.' She let out a long sigh. "Could the labyrinth be shifting itself, keeping us away from the center? When we threw the rock in the shadow pit, did we ever actually hear the rock hit bottom?"
The big unicorn squinted, looking over her shoulder. She hadn't considered that the stupid ruin might be changing shape on them, because it sounded stupid. It also sounded like the Peophin was right. "Your spirit dragons would probably be able to tell us if that's what's happening. If there's a center to this labyrinth at all, it might..." she groaned. "It might be on another level. I saw it when I was flying- the Lich, I mean- but you know how these old ruins can appear to be small or big, depending on how they were built? What if there's a second floor?"
"That's all a good point, Doe, but even Dreamsever didn't want anything to do with the shadow pit. How are we going to get to a second layer- story, if you will- when we haven't seen even a hint of a stairwell. Or something like that." She watched as Doe's eyes seemed to trace along an unseen line. She assumed it was what the others called a leyline, a magical line that few could see, but all magical creatures used. Simitra assumed a place like this was probably full of artificial leylines, because it was obvious there was no way this was built by hand, claw, or hoof. Even, as Doe had so tactlessly put it, for someone who had been magically castrated. She also watched as the other mare's eyes seemed to stop at the place Urasina had laid down some sort of barrier spell. "You're thinking we should step on the obvious trap."
"I'm thinking," Doe said with a little bit of a grin, "that you should be the one to step on it. Maybe Urasina can ask a dragon to catch you if you fall a little further than expected."

The idea that the ruin was either shifting magically or had more than one floor was a bit unnerving to Urasina. "I guess the big question is, how do we know for sure whether any of that is for real?" she asked at length. She followed Doe's gaze to the trap tile. "No, no, no. If anyone's going to trigger that tile, it's going to be someone who can fly." She couldn't spread her wings to their full extend in this passage, but she didn't need to; the tone of her voice made it obvious she was referring to herself. "But before we do something that risky, I want to test what we're up against here. You three MIGHT want to look away, or close your eyes. This could blind you for a little while." Her horn began to glow and her Light ring began to shed sparks. "Light magic is quite good with illusions," she explained as she began to charge power. "So it's ALSO good at destroying them. This is going to be a powerful blast, but if we ARE dealing with an illusion, then this will shatter it and we'll see the labyrinth for how it REALLY is." Arcs of Light energy began to ripple across her body and the air around her began to heat up a little. "Stay back and close your eyes, this is going to be blinding." Several seconds later, her light show stopped completely, but two seconds after that, a MASSIVE blast of Light magic erupted from her body, turning everything bright white for a few seconds. But it quickly faded.
((It's up to you. If there is an illusion, it's now permanently shattered. If there is no illusion, then nothing will change.))

Doe's eyes didn't close in time, but neither did the light bother them. She watched as the light magic searched for cracks in any illusion- only to find that there wasn't one. "I would have felt better if it were an illusion." She felt the same unease at the passages shifting themselves that Urasina did, and hung her head. "But at the same time, I feel better that the whole lot of us weren't being fooled." Her new vantage point let her see Simitra's sword, and the light magic burst had disabled its magical effects for a moment. "Oh, gross, is that what it actually looks like?!"
Simi looked down at the sword's tentacles that were wrapping itself around her leg. To her, nothing about its appearance had changed. But to the others, it was now a green octopus-looking monster with several bladed spikes protruding from its tentacles and what may have been its skull. The smell of rotten eggs wafted from its mouth. "Wait, did Dreamsever actually look like a normal blade to you? Most people- Neopians- see him as a Maraquan Floud. Says a lot about you, though, that I told you he was a weapon and you sort of took it at face value." Dreamsever's face peered out from the ribbon, and for the first time, Aerlliin screamed at the appearance of an animal.
"I saw him as a Floud! Please make him go back, oh my Sloth, that is an actual nightmare. I can't believe you let that thing touch you!" She looked at Urasina in a panic, every word coming out faster and higher than the last- her wings beat with every word, as well, and she had taken flight in an effort to get further away from Dreamsever. "You know what? I'll go down a pit. I literally feel safer going into the black unknown than being near that thing."

((So... Dreamsever is a creature, not a sword, huh?))
Unlike the other mares, Urasina wasn't grossed out by Dreamsever's true form. She was slightly intrigued instead. "Looks like a zombie-fied bladed Tiny Giant Squid to me," she remarked with a casual shrug. "Smells nasty, though. I don't know how you can stand the smell." She tried not to laugh at Liin's panicked reaction. "Whoa whoa whoa, easy there," she said soothingly. "I doubt that thing will hurt us. Still, if YOU want to take a dive, feel free." She lifted her barrier off the trap tile, then spread her wings as far as she could in the narrow passageway. There was the sound of rushing wind, though no wind could be felt, and she lifted straight off the ground like a helicopter, wings outstretched as she rode on a magical, unseen thermal, gliding backwards several feet before hovering, legs folded to her body.

((Six of one, half a dozen of the other. He's both a sword and a creature, which is why he's seen as either or by the people that have the chance to actually get a look at him- and why most people refer to him as 'it' or just being a sword.))
Liin gave the other two mares a salute with her forewing before allowing herself to plummet into the abyss. Her aura lit up the passageway well enough, though she would have been able to see the passage in the dark on her own. She cast a ball of light, anyhow, just before she hit the bottom with her hooves. The white ceramic tiles clinked beneath her hooves. She looked up, seeing nothing but a square of light. "There is, in fact, a bottom down here." She took a closer look at the tiles along the side of the wall- they seemed to tell a story, as most crypts did. It shifted under her gaze, however- a story with multiple perspectives, layered on top of each other. "Somewhere in here," she whispered to herself, "lies the truth of what we're dealing with." It was a magic she was familiar with, but not in the Lost Desert- she'd seen it in a Faerie ruin from thousands of years ago, just outside of Altador.
"Urasina, you might be more interested- and invested, since you live in the desert- in this story than I am. It's the story of the ancient king who ruled here. He was... not very nice." She wrinkled her nose as she angled her voice upward. "And I say this knowing another ruling tyrant of an empire. If you or I touch our magic to this, we might see the story activate and get the true weight of it." She looked at it again, noticing that the story looked a lot like a scroll on the wall. "Actually, we're both going to need to touch it. There appear to be activation nexus on either side of the story. A reminder of what happened, perhaps?"
Doe felt uneasy about the passageway, though she couldn't say why. Perhaps it was that her enormous bulk had, this entire time, been walking on a hollow floor. The idea was rather unnerving. "I think she means the two of you just because it'll need any Neopian magic to open it. I'm out, and whatever is clinging to Simi's leg is also out," she said to Urasina. "Simi, please give that thing a breath mint. Reminds me of when my little Kookith got into the sugar and invited her little spy flies to come play- we didn't find it for a week and by then everything was rotten."
"You people are so oversensitive. It's a good thing Dreamsever has a thick skin, or you might offend him." She stroked the weapon-and-pet, and it appeared to return to its 'normal' form to everyone who saw its illusion. Still, she felt the thing tense as Liin explained the scroll. "I'd be interested to see that scroll, though. What it might look like to me will be vastly different to what you three see."

Urasina had landed after Liin activated the tile and flew through the hole. She had been anticipating a larger hole to open, possibly underneath her, Doe, and Simi. "Doe, I'm heading down to see what she's talking about," she said to the other Uni. "It's going to be pitch black up here when I do; Liin and I are our sources of light, after all." The Miniature Sun floating above her back didn't react to this statement. "Don't linger up here too long, we don't know what lurks in the dark." She dove down the hole too, and the baby dragon spirit followed. When she landed next to Liin, she gave the mural a look. "I've seen these before," she remarked. "They're mostly harmless, but there have been times that the story 'comes to life' in the form of magical illusions that actually appear around you, allowing you to see things in a very vivid way. If you've never seen that before, you might get spooked, so there's my warning." What she DIDN'T tell Liin was that sometimes, when these murals were activated, those who activated them were temporarily drawn INTO the mural, actually BECOMING part of the story for a few minutes before the magic reversed and they returned to Neopia. "/I hope that doesn't happen now; it will completely freak out Simi and Liin, and maybe even Doe,/" she thought silently.

Liin nodded. "I've seen them a few times. Mostly Faerie magic, though, so the magic here will probably be different. It might even be around the same age as the first mural I saw- wouldn't that be exciting?" She nosed around the activation nexus she was closest to, admiring the craftsmanship of the golden near-machine. Its filigree likely told a story on its own, long since lost to the one who crafted it. It likely wasn't even gold, as these things tended to wither away with time- even when protected from the elements down here. The name of the metal, too, was probably lost to time.
Doe clunked down into the corridor, her sides scraping the narrow opening enough that her armor protected her hindquarters from suffering the same fate. It almost did its job too well, as the armor made her slightly too wide to go through. She hung there, rather comically, for a few moments while she worked out a way to ensure her safety. She chose to transform into a large house cat, nimbly falling to the floor on all fours. She retained the form as she had the bird form, slinking through the hallway and curling around Liin's legs. She let Simitra fall in, only saving her at the last minute, and grinned a sly smile before turning her attention to the multilayered painting on the wall. "So. Ancient magical mural that needs two Neopians to activate it. No way this is gonna turn hinky." She slowly blinked, having taken on the mannerisms of a cat. "I'm game."
"It'll be interesting to see how you three react while you're dealing with it," Simi said with a smirk. She set Dreamsever down, and gave him a breathmint as Doe had suggested. He was getting a little rank, but he was a tool of war, not a pet. She watched as the creature chewed it, a grin coming to its sloth-like face. "What I see of it is just a regular mural, like those pictures you see of the most ancient tombs. Looks like an ancient rite, going from right to left. Ooh! It's a mummification process! I was wondering how they got all the blood out." She read the end of it, and grinned when Liin's face fell in shock. "And at the end, here, they're worshipping the sarcophagus."
"I see a battle, Simi. A tyrant being chained to one place, bound with blood and magic." She gently ran a wing over it, and the perspective she saw didn't change.
"Same," Doe said from below. "No heroes came from this battle, either. All the important people died." She hopped up on Liin's back to see it better. "Wow, could you imagine- having to rebuild your city like that when everyone of note got stuck in a place like this? No wonder the people in the village are so badly off. This battle was so big and so devastating, even the land itself was scarred." Her voice dropped to nearly a whisper at the end, as if fearful of waking the dead more than they already had. "A rift like that- no wonder we've encountered so many weak skeletons. They've been wandering this place, trapped like that by the same magic the Lich used to keep himself alive."
"You got all that from just looking at a picture, Doe?" Simi asked with a hint of amusement. The next bit she said with playfulness. "Color me impressed, magic does have its uses. Urasina, what do you see when you look at it?"

Urasina gave the mural a thorough look. "I see a battle too, but I don't see two armies clashing," she said at length. "I see a lone archer drawing his bow, aiming an arrow that looks IMPOSSIBLY big for his weapon, and... Is that the Lich? He's about to shoot it in the back... Kind of like he's the one who ended the battle." She lowered her head a little, yet kept her gaze fixed on the mural. Her ears began to flick back and forth in rhythm, as they did when she was thinking hard. "Well, we won't know for sure unless we power it up. Let's try it, Liin." She moved over to the activation nexus closest to her, and when the Peophin gave the signal, she bumped her muzzle against it. There was a brilliant flash, and when it faded, Urasina and Liin were no longer in the ruin. They were smack-dab in the middle of the battle seen in the mural! Rifts were spewing out undead to their right, while Neopians clashed with a wide variety of dark creatures all around them. Behind the rifts was the creature that could only be the Lich. The two mares had changed as well: Urasina was a Lost Desert Uni, Liin was a Lost Desert Peophin. "Liin, don't panic!" the Uni had to shout to be heard by the Peophin, even though they were side by side. "It's all an illusion! Hold here until it gives out!" From prior experience, she knew that even these kinds of illusions could be deadly, so she raised a brilliant shield of Light magic to protect them both. And just in time, as a swarm of undead Petpets charged towards them.

Liin's own shield protected her, and before she knew it, hundreds of Petpets lie re-dead at their feet. Her lip quivered a little. "The poor dears!" She looked around her, her now-beaded mane clanking the sides of her facial armor in a war beat. "They must have been called forth to do the Lich's bidding- before he was a lich." She worried her tawny lips, feeling a surge of emotion that must have come from the mare she was replicating. "Are you feeling it, Urasina? This guy was a necromancer, first. I think Doe mentioned that. A bad one- like the kind of dude that found his subjects more willing to serve him in the afterlife."
A mauket on Liin's back purred in agreement. "I can't seem to shift out of this form. Odd." She spoke telepathically and her voice echoed in the heads of the two mares, mostly because this form enabled her to do it. She grinned when the Peophin she was on jumped in shock.
"I don't think either of us even realized you came with us, Doe. The mural must have assumed your form was natural to you and just went to the nearest guess." The mare lifted an eyebrow, which was far more noticeable with the khol kajal the illusion placed over her eyes. "Little weird it'd mess with your magic, but that might also mean Urasina and I are limited. Likely to prevent people from breaking the illusion," she surmised. "These people would have wanted their story told."

Urasina flicked an ear when Doe spoke, but other than that she was too focused on watching the Lich, seeking any indication of a weak spot or weakness in general. More undead and redead charged at them, but they bounced off the draconic mare's shield to be immolated by the Faerie mare's aura. "The Lich seems pretty tough, but his focus is solely on the battle in front of him," Urasina said after a moment. "He's not watching his flanks... or his back." Just then, the Lich screamed in what sounded like pain as a large arrow tipped with a magic crystal erupted from his chest. Fourteen streams of light, two for each Faerie element, surged past the three mares and locked onto the arrowhead crystal, siphoning the magic out of the Lich's body. When Urasina turned to look, she saw that each strand was coming from a vial; the elemental vials the group had been finding back in the ruin. The villagers and soldiers massed together and charged in one large mob, aiming to deal the fatal blow... just as the Lich's body literally broke apart, revealing a large rift that sent out a horrific blast of arcane energy. The energy surged across the battlefield, downing the Neopians without slowing... And then the illusion gave out, and the mares were back in the ruins.
"Did you two SEE THAT?" Urasina said excitedly. "The villagers siphoned the Lich's magic and sealed it in the vials we've been finding. That might have been the only way they could beat him. And if we get rid of those vials... We might have an edge."

Liin had barely caught her breath from the sealing rift, the arcane energies of long ago having thoroughly made her breathless. "I know a bit about concentrating the arcane confluences into a single point," she offered. "My friend's mother has a Faerie Blade called Echo. It's got the ability to channel all six Faerie elements at once. It's a shame she's the only one that can wield it or I'd ask Chupe to borrow it."
Doe grumbled, and half of it was likely from swallowing all the elemental elixirs. The other half was remembering the pink blade and its refusal to cooperate. "It's a great little katana. If you like having your insides temporarily cooked because you touched it."
Simi lifted an eyebrow. "You stole it from its display plaque. In the royal quarters." Turning to Urasina, she explained. "The blade is inert if anyone but the desert queen touches it. Doe here got zapped by the guards so hard she couldn't move for a week. But that's not relevant right now." She had Liin explain what went on.
"Doe has been gulping down a cocktail of the very thing the Lich is vulnerable to," Liin said with a hint of excitement. "She should be able to focus the magic through her personal leylines to become a living weapon." The cat on her back merely shrugged, as if that were her plan all along.
"Won't get a chance to do any of that if we just stand here talking about it," she purred.

"It's even more important now that we get our hooves on as many of those vials as we can," Urasina said thoughtfully. "The little silver ones didn't show up in the mural's illusion, so I don't know how they're involved. The dragon baby spirits should give us the edge we need to find them." The one remaining baby chirped at her when she said this. Then she turned back to the mural, which was now inert, and would likely remain that way. "Those of you who died in that fight, you will not have died in vain," she said firmly to it. "I will personally see to that." She dipped her head for several seconds, a silent display of remembrance, before looking back to the other mares. She was about to say something else when the other two baby dragon spirits flew down from the hole above. One of them carried what looked like a lump of ectoplasm in its mouth, which it set down in front of the Uni. Within seconds, the ecto had dissolved, revealing the second Light vial. Kouren promptly took it. "OK, you three keep going," Urasina said, shaking out her mane. "I'll be right behind you, but I need to talk to my Guardian first. She needs to know what we saw, while it's fresh in my head."

Doe nodded, admiring the smaller mare for her reverence of the dead. "I'll begin contacting Chupe, soon, too. It doesn't really know who summoned it, but Liin used a lot of her mana back there with that Guardian of the Night spell so I'll be the one doing it." The other two mares in her group nodded at the cat, who leapt gracefully off the Peophin's back. "It won't take long for it to gather the things we need for the night, but all the same I'd like to have it here before we sleep. Well. The rest of us sleep. I think you might find it... an interesting conversational partner for the night."
"It has its own magical abilities, but if you think Dreamsever looks weird in his true form, you've never seen a Gatekeeper." Simi grinned. "Chupe, too, has its typical form when it's out and about. Sort of looks like a small Eyrie. But when it's just us, it's like a tiny hobgoblin. It'll probably show up here as a hobgoblin just for kicks and giggles."
"Of course, that's about the only magic Simi can see." Liin's voice dropped when she spoke next. "But tread carefully. Those you've just paid tribute to here still linger- I can feel them. Because they died violently and through magical means that we've lost the name to, they're certainly not resting peacefully. You saw the armor they wore- even our powerful light magic might have a hard time penetrating it. We won't go too far ahead, because I'd rather save whatever cocktail Doe is cooking up for the big battle." This made Simi shift uncomfortably.
"You think they'll attack us, even though we're not their problem?" She felt even more uncomfortable when the other Peophin gave her only a sidelong glance. "Oh. Of course they will." It was Doe who spoke next as she slowly shifted from her feline form to her equine one.
"You didn't feel the bloodlust of those that were there, Simitra. Their hatred and fear of the old king was palpable. At least when I was a cat. I think that last magical blast just eliminated all of them. I'm not entirely certain they know they're dead." She let out a long sigh. "It probably killed them because it was so unfocused. They didn't have the training- or ability- to use that much magic at once. It levelled the entire battlefield."
"All that magical energy into one crystal." Liin shook her head, a sad smile on her face. "Poor fools were so desperate. Were Jariev there, she could have prevented any of that from happening." She began walking down the hallway. "You know how to find us. Not that the labyrinth will get you lost," she said with a grin.

"If they're undead or redead, it doesn't matter how strong their armor is," Urasina said casually, tossing her mane. "Undead are weak to Light in any form." Once the other mares had started moving, she slowly lay down, lowering her head and closing her eyes as she made contact with Kouren. Knowing what she was up to, and that she'd take a few seconds to respond if an attack came, the baby dragons took up defensive positions: one in front of her, one behind, and one hovering overhead. The conversation lasted longer than the Uni would have liked; the Light Faerie wanted to know every little detail, and she had some thoughts on what the mares had seen in the mural, including one theory that could change everything. "/...And what about the Light vials?/" Urasina tried to finish the conversation. "/I'm getting some fascinating results from them,/" Kouren answered. "/With two of them, I think I can either make you a weapon or grant you a spell that will be lethal against this Lich. And even if not, I'm learning quite a bit. It's not every day I get my hands on ancient blood/Light magic. My sisters will be quite jealous./"

((sorry this took so long! Holiday weekend was actually a holiday week, plus adjusting to a new antidepressant.))
When they'd turned the corner, Doe summoned the hob goblin-like creature. It appeared through a transdimensional rift, displeased with its location until it saw the mare of light magic it liked so much.
"Lady Aerlliin. How may it be of service to you? Shall it tell you of the outcome of this ridiculous errand you have been sent on, or is this one grabbing things she will be needing?... Again." It had an accent that sounded like it was from Terror Mountain, but world weary and scratchy, as if it spent too much time in smoke filled taverns.
"I hate to turn you into my little retriever, but yeah. We need some things before we bed down for the night. Please don't tell me how this ends, you know how I feel about that. Urasina might feel a bit uncomfortable, as well, if you start listing off possible futures." She handed the list of supplies to the monster, who shifted from one webbed foot to the other.
"I am only going to say that I do not like any of this. Especially not what Doe is doing." It flashed in and out in a blink with the supplies listed, plus a few dozen healing potions of high quality.
"What have you seen, Chupe?" Doe demanded rather than asked. Her brows furrowed when it looked like the creature wasn't going to answer.
"Look, is probably nothing." It rolled its clawed hands in a flamboyant gesture. "This one is probably overthinking, yes? You will rest, defeat bad guy, go home." It nodded, it's huge black eyes betraying nothing of its emotions or thoughts. "I will stand guard. Well, that and the other mare. She has been informed of my arrival, yes? It does not want the dragon horse to scream like the shadow horse did." It referred to its first time meeting Mythicalia, a friend of the trio. It still had tinnitus.
"Yeah, Gatekeeper. She knows. But not what you are, exactly. You've probably already seen her spirit dragons, so I guess this is our way of surprising her with odd arcana," Simi said with a wry grin.

With her conversation finally finished, Urasina stood up again. "Good work, you three," she told the baby dragon spirits. "Form up and stay close. I'll have another task for you in a little while." The baby in front of her took off, then it and the one hovering overhead landed behind the mare and followed her down the passageway. The Uni could hear the other mares' voices, as well as a new voice that most likely belonged to Chupe. She rounded the corner and stopped, but honestly wasn't surprised or bothered by the little hobgoblin. "Ah, you must be Chupe," she said, dipping her head politely. "They informed me you'd be coming." She glanced at the supplies lying around. "They were right when they said you were quick; I couldn't have been 'out of it' more than five minutes." She turned to Doe next. "My Guardian had some thoughts on what we saw in the mural," she went on. "Now remember, she wasn't there with us, so take it with a grain of salt. She said that she thinks the villagers weren't blasting the Lich with twelve streams of magic, but were DRAINING it out of him to weaken him, using the arrowhead crystal as the focus. They went too far and that rift opened up." She exhaled slowly. "Regardless of whether they were blasting or draining, getting those vials is mission critical right now. I'm going to send the baby dragon spirits out to retrieve them when we stop for the night. They brought back the second Light vial, they can probably get at least some of the others. Provided you're OK drinking potentially another 8 or more such things, Doe."

The hobgoblin grinned, revealing several spiked teeth. "It likes this one." Its grin fell as it listened to the shorter unicorn speak. "It is pleased this magic has since been lost. It is a dangerous sort, the kind that can kill beings such as myself."
Doe had to agree."I'm good with making a cocktail in my gut. The more potions I get, the more potent my spells will be during the battle. As of right now, I'm good for two or three major offensive spells that might just make the lich mad instead of doing damage." She let the magic simmer a little. "And no defensive spells except the ones I was born with." This seemed to worry the hobgoblin, who shifted on its digigrade feet.
"I know you don't like spoilers, but-" It waited politely for the bigger unicorn to nod- "Something like that could cause great harm to those around you. The non magical complaining mare and the magical sweet mare will turn into spray paint."
"That..." Liin hesitated, as though trying not to colic. "That is the last thing I thought could happen to me. Let's get those remaining potions- I have a husband I'd like to see again."
"Red on sandstone. Not a pretty color scheme." Simi tried making light of the conversation. "Also, gross. Let's bed down for the night, though - we might still end up painting the walls if we're too tired to see straight." The other two mares agreed.
Chupe spoke to Urasina again. "It is keeping you company tonight, then. Chupe knows how stubborn you battle mares can be- its mistress is of your ken." It did something with its eyes that may have been a wink.

Urasina grinned back at Chupe, but when the hobgoblin mentioned the danger, she looked grim. "I'd like to know for sure whether the villagers were draining or blasting, but we're never going to know," she admitted. With a grunt, she turned to the baby dragon spirits. "OK, you know the drill now, guys. Go bring back the larger vials and smash the smaller silver ones. Fan out, move quickly, but be excruciatingly careful and mindful. And stay out of the middle of the labyrinth, even if it means taking a big detour." The spirits clicked at her and all three of them took off, flying upwards and vanishing through the ceiling. "I REALLY would like the space to summon their mother; I don't think the Lich would stand a chance against her," she grumbled, moving a bit away from the other mares. Her Light ring began to glow more brightly, and her hooves lit up with holy fire. A few seconds later, her Miniature Sun went out and vanished, leaving the passageway much darker. "This should be more conducive to sleep than having a sun along for the ride," the draconic mare commented. "Chupe, are you at all affected by things such as wards? Neopian ones, I should mention. I'd like to put up a few for extra safety."

It watched as the other mares began bedding down for the night, to settle into both dream filled and dreamless sleep. "I have not been affected by magic of this world before. I am much like Simitra in that regard; my magic I have kept."
Simi peered at it through the dark, her eyes reflecting an odd gold color in the minor light. "Chupe, don't you have a portal to guard or a small nation to invade?"
It grinned again, its eyes sharing the strange reflection the odd Peophin had. "When one is not tied to one timeline, one is always working. I am both here and guarding, but also doing neither of those things. I am doing everything at once."
"For the love of Fyora, stop. You're making my head hurt!" It was Liin, letting the phrase out in a harsh whisper through her teeth. "The more you explain time magic, the less it makes sense!"
