Every night I rush to my bed
With hopes that maybe I'll get a chance to see you
When I close my eyes I'm going out of my head
Lost in a fairytale, can you hold my hands and be my guide?

History: Our tale began with a wandering black magician and hypnotist, traveling and selling his services in curses, hexes, spells, and hypnosis. He made a comfortable, almost lavish living during wartime, when nearly every lord and noble in the land was trying to annex or gain revenge on his neighbor. Back then, many were happy to pay a sum in gold to buy a curse in black magic, but once peace began to gain popularity, this magician found himself in lower and lower demand. He called himself Kipsuin.
No longer making enough money to stay in the large cities in the nobles' chateaus, Kipsuin wandered to a smaller town, where by chance he came across a young girl, not much older than ten. The girl appeared ordinary enough, but soon the magician realized that she was homeless, without a blood relation to be seen, and for some reason shunned by all those in the town. She called herself Séraphine.
Kipsuin, intrigued by this seeming nobody, made some inquiries, and discovered the reason why the girl was, for the most part, avoided by the people around her. He was told that while she looked like a normal person, she was mentally unstable and often seemed to 'switch' personalities. When she did, she acted, thought, and completely became like a different person, without even the memory of things she'd done. Fueled partially by professional interest as a hypnotist and specialist of the mind, partially by curiosity, Kipsuin returned to study this Séraphine, and eventually uncovered his greatest discovery.
She was, as he had learned earlier, mentally unstable, but while experimenting with hypnosis Kipsuin stumbled upon a personality that remembered prior training in dance, and possessed a singular, breathtaking talent in the art. Quick-witted as he was, the magician realized that that talent could be harnessed to produce a stunning performer, which would doubtless be popular in this time when every king and noble was preoccupied with parties and balls. She was his return ticket to fame and fortune. With this discovery, Kipsuin took her under his wing and away from the town.
Over the course of several years, he painstakingly trained that particular personality of Séraphine in ballet, using the remnants of his wealth to hire skilled instructors for her. The process was made much more complicated by the fact that he needed to hypnotize her each time in order to induce that personality to appear. Other methods proved ineffectual, and other personalities knew nothing of how to dance. And so she learned ballet in a trancelike, emptyheaded state, which also accelerated her progress by making her impervious to the pain and hardships of training.
When he was done, however, the work had paid off. She had become a masterful and beautiful dancer, and he had perfected his technique to induce the personality at will, maintain it for a period of time, and she would then dance whichever piece he instructed her to. She captivated her audiences, kings, nobles, and peasants alike, and, almost overnight, became a sensation throughout the land. None, however, knew about the questionable and highly unorthodox methods used to create such a lovely dancing, silent doll. Almost in mocking irony, Kipsuin gave her a stage name that became her new identity: Enchanted Ballerina.

Personalities: Ballerina suffers from a mental disorder known today as DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), previously known as MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder). It is characterized by a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. [Wikipedia] Most commonly, the mind 'fragments' into distinct alters when exposed to severe trauma of many forms, although in Ballerina's case the cause has yet to be found. None of her currently known alters remember what happened before she fragmented, and not even Kipsuin has been able to find out. Nor does he particularly care.
Although Ballerina has many personalities stored away that may number in the teens and twenties, there appear to be three that predominantly appear most of the time, along with a fourth strange, unique one.
Enchanted Ballerina
The alter that received training in ballet, and that performs for royalty, nobility, or anyone with enough money to pay the fees. She rarely appears under ordinary circumstances, but can be induced for a period of time through Kipsuin's hypnosis. Therefore, she is constantly in an emptyheaded, blissful state, does not talk, and knows only to dance whenever she is instructed to by Kipsuin. She has also never given a name in her trancelike state, and so is simply known by her stage name. It is strangely fitting and yet incorrect at the same time.
Séraphine (say-ra-FEEN)
The 'original' personality, Séraphine is much as one would expect an ordinary, non-mentally ill girl to be like. While still collected, mild-tempered, and sweet, she is happy and blissfully apathetic of her other life as the Enchanted Ballerina. Tending a bit on the superficial and vain side, she's happy as long as Kipsuin gives her nice dresses and spending money. While she knows about the existence of her other alters, she is comfortable with sharing her mind, and to her it is as natural as breathing. Séraphine sees Kipsuin as her 'parent', companion, mentor, as well as savior for giving her a new, comfortable life of freedom and beauty. The fact that he is using her to generate wealth means little to her.
Isolde (i-SOL-duh)
Isolde is a flighty, whimsical girl, prone to short attention spans and a much shorter temper than Séraphine. Permanently stuck in the mental age of twelve, she is also extremely curious and talkative, and a natural wanderer by nature. Isolde gives Kipsuin the most headaches out of all of her alters, because of her alarming tendency to slip away when he has his back turned. While ordinarily not an issue, Isolde also A) gets lost easily, and B) loves to talk to strangers. As if that weren't bad enough, she also knows enough about Kipsuin and Ballerina to get them in serious trouble if she talks to the wrong person. It is mostly due to Isolde that Kipsuin keeps her locked up when she is left alone, but she still regards him in very much the same light that Séraphine does.
Victoria Odile von Rothbart
Strangest of all her alters is the one that calls herself Victoria Odile von Rothbart, who almost never appears but causes quite a stir whenever she does. Victoria is paranoid, schizophrenic, highly suspicious of Kipsuin and her other alters, and very much insane. She tears at her hair, claws at the door, and worst of all, screams and rants about how Séraphine is a fake, and that she is the real original personality. She is also known to wail about how "he lies" - whether in reference to Kipsuin or not is unknown. Although it is doubtful that what she says is true, as they are literally the rantings of a madwoman, it is chillingly accurate that Victoria seems to know the most about every other alter, and recalls the most memory of her previous life. It is unclear what secrets she may be capable of revealing - when she isn't screaming and beating her head against the wall, that is.

Quad/Anthro/Human: Human only
Possible Plots: Options for Ballerina are endless; while I develop the Ballerina-Kipsuin story in a mostly medieval-esque setting, it could easily be adapted to fit a modern world as well. She would likely be found in a castle or chateau, as she and Kipsuin prefer to perform for the richer upper class, but Isolde can easily meet others while slipping away from Kipsuin. Possible plots I have planned include:
1. Isolde wanders off when Kipsuin isn't paying attention, meets a stranger on the street, and unknowingly reveals some compromising information.
2. While performing in a nobleman's chateau or a castle, someone in the audience becomes suspicious of the duo and investigates further, unknowing of what they are getting themselves mixed up into.
3. Someone happens to overhear Victoria screaming in the dead of night, and, suspecting foul play, investigates further.
They could also interact in a variety of other ways; please PM if you have an idea!
At the moment, Ballerina is not seeking a love interest (she barely knows who she herself is!), but I would be very much open to the possibility of her, or one of her alters, unexpectedly falling in love or the other way around. It would certainly be an interesting twist! Again, PM if interested.

Note: Some of you may have noticed the slight anachronism in Ballerina's timeline; while her story is set in a somewhat medieval setting with royalty and nobility and castles and such, ballet as she dances it wasn't around until the nineteenth century or so. I am aware of the discrepancy, though I decided to take some artistic freedom and merge some elements of the Middle Ages with slightly more modern ballet costumes and techniques (such as pointe shoes). After all, ballet has its roots in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries; the only difference was the costume and dancing styles. ;)
And yes, Victoria's lengthy name is an ironic reference to the villains in the ballet Swan Lake. Just in case you were wondering. The song is Sweet Dreams by Beyoncé.
