ooc | Private RP for Kikyo (myself) and Carestine (Jackie). =)
ic | For some people, the sold-out audience would cause them to shaking in their boots, their voice to quiver, and sweat to come pouring down their backs. For Kikyo, however, the only effect of the enamored audience was to cause a warm tingling course through her body, a warmth of contentment and joy. Her voice, far from quivering, soared and glided through the air with ease, and her erect and poised body showed no sign of a single quiver.
The nobles of Altador had decided to fund a special post-Christmas event of the arts. In the blues that often accompanied the end of the holidays, Altador's leaders had thought that a festival might help banish some of the darkness winter brought. When Eruanna, a local Altadorian patron, had heard of the event, she had quickly hooked up several of her most talented Neopets into the festival. And so for an entire week, plays, operas, and acts of all kinds were brought forth to entertain the good citizens of Altador.
Kikyo had been one of the Neopets Eruanna had taken great pains to see featured in the festival, and the Cybunny was currently being featured in a classic opera. The audience was mostly made up of nobles and richer families; most commoners didn't care for the grandiose of the opera, but Kikyo didn't care who she sang to. She had an enraptured audience and a handsome Krawk to whom she was addressing a deeply moving aria of love and loss. She could only hope that those watching could feel the emotion she poured into every note and word.

Entering the most extravagant opera house in Altador, a pair of sparkling eyes watched as prestigious members of the community mingled amongst themselves. Large men, boasting about their latest exploits, the dainty females sharing petty gossip.
Her eyes rolled, finding no amusement in the insignificant subjects talked about amidst the majority of those in Altador's upper-class. The elegant Korbat shifted her weight onto her other leg, leaning against a pillar near the entranceway. Carestine stood alone, which she had begun to prefer in most social circumstances, waiting for the announcement for everyone to take their appropriate seats so the show could begin.
A few moments later, everyone became accommodated, Carestine joining the crowd to take her place nearest the stage.
She sat, feeling a bit more at ease as the curtains opened and the show began. If there was one thing that Carestine had always loved, it was music. Beautiful melodies flew through the concert hall, enrapturing the audience in the story that unfolded through song. A lovely Cybunny belted out an extravagant high note, hitting it perfectly, while the male lead watched her adoringly.
Smiling for the first time today, Care watched dreamily. Would the two be torn apart, unable to live in bliss with one another? Or would love conquer all?

ooc | Sorry for the really long posts; Kikyo seems to be inspiring me today. xD
As the opera went along, all the emotional peaks were hit. Kikyo and the Krawk, two desperate lovers, confessed their devotion, but a war in their country tore him from her side and onto the battle lines. Her grief echoed in great musical runs, bounding through actaves. When, at the end of the opera, Kikyo sang over the lifeless body of her beloved whose life had been cut short on the frontlines, she cherished every wonderful and terrible emotion.
Why couldn't real life be like an opera? Kikyo often wondered wistfully. People often just seemed so remote from each other when it came to their feelings. And here she was, experiencing the heartwrenching tragedy of her lovelorn character, being caught up in it as if it were herself. In an odd way, it was somewhat enjoyable to feel and express such pure and raw emotions.
When the opera had ended with Kikyo declaring her devotion to her love despite his death, there was an epilogue performed by the choir. Then in what seemed like a surprisingly short amount of time, Kikyo held the hand of the Krawk and of the various ensemble characters as they took their bows to the audience.

Carestine watched as the Krawk lay lifeless in the arms of his sorrowful lover. Her lament so soft and powerful, allowing the audience to feel and share in the performers grief.
All around her, the woman were crying, and even the men looked choked up at the tragic ending. Carestine seemed to be the exception. She sat in her seat, still appearing observant, almost as if she was saying "what next?". But truly, she couldn't help feeling a certain hopelessness. This is life, she thought. There's never a happy ending.
She seemed to lose herself in thought, realizing a few moments later that the rest of the audience was on their feet giving a standing ovation. Care quickly stood and joined them, clapping her approval for the marvelously tragic play and wonderful performance of the lead Cybunny. The cast gave their final bow and waved to the audience as the curtains slowly closed.

When the curtain had closed, one could instantly feel the heaviness that had taken over the actors fall away. Good job, everyone! The director, a wizened old Kacheek, had made his way onto stage and was congragulating the cast and crew. His handshake was very firm when he grasped Kikyo's paw. Another fine performance, Kikyo, he said, bowing his head.
Kikyo smiled. Always a pleasure, she said graciously. After she had exchanged words with her fellow cast, Kikyo slipped backstage to put away her things quickly. The opera had been a matinee show, so the rest of the day still lay before her, and she wanted to go out and enjoy the festival!
Out in the main lobby of the playhouse, much of the cast had come from backstage like Kikyo to meet and greet the audience.

ooc | Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I've been disgustingly swamped with school work and I have a wedding to go to this weekend, so I haven't had a chance to reply but I have not forgotten about this and I WILL post a response as soon as I can!
