ON THE INSIDE
Personality: Having had some bad experiences in the world, Chailynne is cynical, pessimistic, and tad bit bitter. She was let down in her younger years, failed, disappointed, and hurt. As a consequence, she’s very guarded and not the quickest to trust. The failure of others has only sparked her own determination and persistence though and made her a stronger mare than she once was. She has a dedicated manner, being very passionate in whatever she chooses to do. Her wit is sharp and she admires the traditions and ways of old. Adamant, stouthearted, and in control, on the outside Chai appears to be a strong warrior. On the inside, however, lies a delicate, broken heart.
Likes: Justice, battle, the ocean, song, necklaces, and being in control
Dislikes: “True Love”, betrayal, the drylands, heartache, stallions, and heartbreakers
Strengths: Discipline, stouthearted nature, persistence, and a quick wit
Weaknesses: Heartache, love and loyalty
Character Flaws: Distrust and cynicism
HISTORY
Past: Chailynne grew up in the rivers of Shenkuu, where she practiced the art of the warrior. She loved her home greatly, but, being an aquatic being, always held a heart for Maraqua and longed to one day visit its waters. To her joy, her request to be transferred to Maraqua was granted and she was assigned to serve in the Maraquan patrols. There she worked hard and rose in rank until she was captain of the platoon that regularly patrolled one of the bordering Maraquan colonies. She was the head of strategies during the attack of Captain Scarblade, defending her colony well. In the days that followed, rogue bands of corsairs, mimicking Scarblade, began raiding the border colonies outside of Maraqua. Maraqua was drunk with victory, however, and had sent its best warriors to the Altador Cup in search for more glory. Refusing to withdraw them lest it lessen their chances of winning the cup, they failed to send reinforcements to aid the colonies. This left the border defense weak. Chailynne, in desperation, sought help from a band of mercenary warriors and fell in love with their leader. Things were looking up. Yet the day the pirates struck, she awoke to an empty den. Her mate and his comrades, having received payment for the troops’ service in advance, had slipped away during the night, leaving the colony to fend for itself. Chailynne refused to give up however and put her hurt aside to defend the colony she loved so much. In the end, her forces were decimated, a large portion of the colony plundered, and her rider fell to her death, yet they managed to drive the pirates away and the colony was able to pick itself up again without the help of Maraqua. The memory of betrayal lived on in the young warrior’s mind and, even though time stretched on, each day she felt as if that battle had just ended. Her heart was scarred, her life forever changed. So she returned to Shenkuu to withdraw from her service and lay down the life of the warrior, leaving the place she had once loved so much to wander the ocean in search of… something, but what, she did not know.
