The last thing you were expecting was parallel lines of trumpeters. As you watch as a little Peophin walks between the musicians, you also ponder on how they all fit into your bedroom. The little Peophin approaches you with a smile across his little white muzzle, brown eyes shining with the joy of his delivery. He hands you a scroll without a word. He somehow signals to the fanfare to exit the room, and he follows soon after. After you are finished staring at the closed door, you turn your attention back to the scroll. The scroll is sealed with wax, imprinted with an unfamiliar coat of arms. Curious, you break the seal and unroll the parchment and reveal a strange letter:
To the Lucky Lover Who Has Received this Letter, Many congratulations, as you have been successfully paired with a wondrous partner for a stupendous holiday treat. Before you even think of tossing this scroll into your trash receptacle, please take note that this date is sponsored by the Kingdom of Aquari and is free of charge on behalf of the Make-Me-a-Match Foundation. If you enjoy the result of all of their hard work, they except donations in the form of neopoints, doubloons, and free advertising. The date set out for you is tailored to your interests, and your partner chosen by your answers to our wonderful online questionnaire. If you have any complaints, you should revisit your answers and check your honesty before consulting with the MMAMF personnel.
You skim over the rest of this section, as you notice it removes any form of liability on the kingdom and the foundation. After your quick skim, you reach the last paragraph of the letter with all of the information you need:
You and your date will be competing in a gingerbread house making competition in Happy Valley! All candy supplies needed for this venture are supplied by the sponsors, from the gumdrops to the candy canes. The challenge will be held outside of the Merry Outfits store, so be sure to dress warmly! You are already on the entry roster alongside your date. Free hot chocolate will be supplied to keep you warm while constructing your creation. Only edible objects are allowed on the gingerbread houses, so please do not rig your house with any firecrackers like last year’s lot…Don’t forget to have fun! Your date will be meeting you in front of the shop at 12:00 this afternoon. Judging is at 4:00!
Good luck, Queen Arynaiyae Royale of Aquari ((Had to fudge on style choice, sorry Frosty D: ))

In spite of not even remembering the last time he'd been on a date--if he ever had at all--Lan was in high spirits as he strapped on his snow-shoes and closed the lodge for the day to begin his trudge down the mountain to Happy Valley, dragging a rickety red sled behind him. He had been due to visit town for supplies anyway; the date was simply a bonus. After all, while he wouldn't admit it, it could become lonely up at the lodge when travellers were scarce and business slow. Even if nothing resulted from this--and he was fairly sure it wouldn't--it might be nice to meet someone new.
Having arrived early at the address, the anthro Bori set his sled against the door and removed some of his heavier clothing; his thick, wool-lined jacket was hung up on a hook by the door and his earmuffs were settled on top of it. He shook his head to clear his ears, snow flying from curly, dark green hair. Bright blue eyes traced the tracks of his sled back up the hill. The trip back would be harder than the trip down; at least this would be an opportunity to unwind and replenish his energy. Smiling gently, he leaned over for a quick peek through the window beside the front door of the cabin where the contest would be held. They still seemed to be getting things ready.
Unable to resist the urge to help, Lantalosa knocked and was greeted by a kindly-looking old Bruce. "I was invited for the blind date," he told her. "Do you need any help setting up?"
She smiled fondly and welcomed him in. They had met before, Lan recalled, when her son was lost in a blizzard, but she didn't seem to recognise him. He would not lose sleep over this. Perhaps he might be more memorable to his date, plain though he might be.

It's fine either way... it might be interesting either way to see how Tream will deal with this sort of stuff. She's never made a house out of anything, let alone edible things xD Her reactions would be the same in either form

For your benefit, only Tream's outward thoughts will be in lime. xD The rest will be black so neither of us goes blind. XD
Tream had already been close to the address as an overnight guest in preparation for this date of hers; though she sorely missed Aerlliin's unmutantising presence (and thus, at the moment, was at her most vibrant), she'd gained enough confidence in the year she'd been out of the laboratory to carry herself with pride. Talking to others, however, was still a nightmare. It had taken everything she was worth to request a room- on a lower floor, far away from the furnaces or boiler rooms. When the 'family' friend revealed a room with a broken heater, Tream was ecstatic (although silently.) Greatly disliking dry heat as it made her itchy and incredibly uncomfortable, the cool, moist air here in the mountains was refreshing and enjoyable. She bade farewell to her snow Gnorbu friend with a wave of her fluke (he forgave her for being unable to speak to him for he at least understood what it was like to be misunderstood- at least there was that).
The Merry Outfits Store, one block over, she thought to herself. She'd been there with Liin once or twice; would they recognise her now? She doubted it, as the only thing familiar on her body were her colours- and boy, were people noticing! The attention she received in the five-minute walk was enough to make her want to crawl up inside herself. The only reason she didn't was this date- though she hadn't said as much, she was rather looking forward to it. The gingerbread houses of last year, her Gnorbu friend had said, were simply stunning works of art- and incredibly delicious. The fact that art was being eaten made her make a mental note to bring Blitz along next year. An Elephante immediately began questioning her.
Ah, are you here for the competition? Do you know who you're with? Do-
STOP! She shrunk back immediately, and held up her invitation envelope. H-h-here. She hoped it would be enough; she was too nervous a mare to just walk up and ask people, and she hadn't seen anyone outside with a similar envelope.
Sorry, miss, no connection there. Just hang around a bit, enjoy the scenery; even if your companion doesn't show up, I'm sure you'll find someone, I mean with your-
Th-that's OK. She ducked away from him, the jelly-like part of her body quivering with nerves; anyone who didn't know her might mistake her for being cold. Holy crap, they could have warned me about how friendly people are up here. She did, however, decide to wait outside- inside the building would be too hot for her, with the gingerbread ovens on high, an open fire, and furnaces. Just the thought was enough to make her itchy.
