Kudos to anyone who understands the P!nk reference. xD To the lurkers, this roleplay is between Ruan and I, following the events in here. Hope you enjoy the father/son and lover interactions. =3 Be warned; There are details about Ryn, another character of mine, and Zesiro that have not been complied into the biographies that Zesiro wil most likely mention, as alluded to in "Ulterior Motives".The humidity of the desert was taking its toll on a former resident as he leaned against the door of his daughter's chambers. Surely he wasn't so adjusted to the more tropical environment he couldn't stand a little heat? He shook his head in an attempt to unstick his mane from his neck.
He roused himself from the door, only to hear a loud THUD against the wood. He figured his daughter was having another one of her tantrums and threw one of her chalices at the door from a previous raid in a blackmarket boss' mansion. It rang like bronze. He thanked someone on high for her light rage---had it been worse, she might have thrown something golden she was looking after.
He sighed, leaving his daughter to wallow in her anger and headed for his son's room, hoping he would be more willing to listen to reason. His son always had a cooler head on his shoulders compared to his twin. He approached the door and knocked, only to be met with silence. He smacked himself mentally at his idiocy. His studious son could only be in the library at this time of day.
He changed his course to the library, throwing the large doors open with ease. Now if he could only spot his son in the elaborate maze of texts. He squinted, searching the grand chamber as the sunlight poured in from windows a few stories higher. He came to the conclusion his eldest was not on the first floor, and made his way toward the stairs.
-----
By the end of the first flight, Zesiro was wishing the monks would see into investing in modern technology. It wouldn't hurt to have an elevator with a little bit of air conditioning to escort a poor fellow a few floors up, or better yet, a map marked with his son's frequent visiting shelves. That would be glorious. He climbed another flight, the lengthy staircase seeming too ridiculous. He figured, regardless of the Temple personnel present in the library, he would make his life a little easier.
Sethora Kendis, just where in the names of the Old Pharaohs are you?

Sethora Kendis had been in the library since the early - or late, depending on your perception - hours, and there were obvious signs of the all-night, all-day studying. His hair was mussed, his cloak - which he had recently abandoned on the back of his chair - was covered in dust, and there were dark circles under his eyes. He had been fighting to keep his eyes open, and had just downed another cup of tea, the special brew the monks made to keep up one's energy, to sustain him for another few hours before giving in to exhaustion.
On the edge of his senses, Sethora heard a voice call his name. Blinking, the stallion looked up from the desk he was sitting at. Putting aside his current manuscript into the orderly piles he had created during his studying, Sethora went to the railing of the third floor. He could see another Peophin stallion making his way up the stairs. It was obviously the one who had called out.
Father! Sethora said, motioning. I'm up here.

The hefty stallion blinked his big brown eyes in an attempt to clear his vision. The words reached his ears, and he lugged up yet another flight of stairs to meet his bookworm child. Or rather, scrollworm. Goodness, the heat must be getting to him.
Of all places, Sethora... Zesiro huffed, Did you have to be this high up?
The old boy plopped into a nearby chair to give his legs a rest. He looked up at his only son, studying him. Had he been raised right? Did his son hate him and his beloved for leaving their precious children in the hands of monks? He hoped some of the news he was going to deliver would change some things.
Did the monks not tell you I'd come calling? He muttered, I'm not exactly young anymore, son. Your old man can only take so many flights.

I don't speak with the monks very much, Sethora replied somewhat airily, sitting across from his father. With nearly anyone else except his family, Sethora would not have even looked up from his reading to carry on conversation. However, he had a deep love for his mother and sister and an even deeper respect for his father, and so gave the older stallion his full attention. And they do not often deem it worthwhile to speak with me.
The young Peophin shook his head and concentrated on the matter at hand. His father did not often make trips out to the desert, though Sethora had sneaking feeling that that was soon going to be changing. But never mind. Is there something of importance of which you wish to speak to me, Father?

Haha, by the way you speak, you'll fit in quite well, Zesiro mused, a small smile crossing his muzzle. He was a little appalled by the fact that the monks did not see fit to socialize with his son, and he knew in his heart he had not been there to teach his children proper etiquette. He could not blame the monks for not filling such a role, for their works for a higher power.
Yes, my son, there is an important matter for us to discuss, the stallion replied, hoping Seth would take the news better than his twin, The first is that I am attending a wedding between a Guardian and a demon.
He watched his child, looking for any sign of disturbance in his face. He wasn't aware of if Sethora's hatred for demons ran as thick as Sienna's, so he decided to trod down the same path. Perhaps by starting with this news, it would be easier to present the fact that the Kendis family was now considered nobles in a distant desert court.

The only visible reaction was an eyebrow raise at Zesiro's words. Sethora began to tap his hoof on the wooden table. He seemed to be digesting the words. An inter-enemy marriage between a Guardian and a demon, eh? he said after a few tense minutes. I am likely not the first to imagine the havoc the Guardians and demons are in right now in light of this news.
Indeed. This was an interesting turn of events. Sethora's mind flicked back to the battle between Ren and Sienna. Ren... the half-demon... Given his link to the Guardians, Sethora knew the business of the two sides more than the average person, though he was not caught in its strings like his father. Is this the marriage between Domaryne and Losthebe, Father?

Zesiro adjusted his posture in the chair, leaning back in his seat, Indeed they are not, he sighed, The court was quite split on the issue of whether or not Lothe would be able to keep his Guardian status if he married into a demon family, but because our numbers are nowhere near where they used to be...he leaving his post would not be ideal for either party.
He further studied his son, noting the raise of his brow. Seth had inherited a number of the Kendis family traits, which only made his chest swell with pride. Sethora would make a fine head of the Kendis family someday.
You seem to have been studying, Zesiro mused, For you to even know the demon by her true name without meeting her is impressive. Yes, they are to be wed in the grand hall of Aquari palace not a week from this day.
He could tell the gears were turning in Sethora's mind. Was it a memory, or was he placing the pieces in order?
There will be guards stationed around every corner by my orders, Zes continued, Everyone inside will be protected from any unexpected attack by the...bride's family... Your mother will be safe.
He wasn't sure if he said the last part more for himself or for his son.

I keep my mind open, Father. It would be foolish of me to not keep up with the goings-on of the Guardians and Demons, Sethora responded with a wave of his hoof. Inwardly, he sighed. When it came to names and faces, Sienna was just as aware of the state of things on both sides. She, however, shunned any other study of the races - things like history, which Sethora engulfed in order to come to a better understanding of the two sides, were ignored by Sienna. In his mind, it was one of her great follies that she refused to understand whenever he spoke to her.
When his father had finished speaking, Sethoram smiling lopsidedly, merely quipped, Oh, so Sienna and I are exempt from going? Good. I despise public functions, especially weddings. Far too much crying goes on at weddings.

That is wonderful knowledge to have, my son, Zes closed his big brown eyes for a moment, But knowledge rarely used is just trivia, gathering dust in the vast plains of your mind. Knowledge in use, now that Sethora, that is power. He reopened his eyes to look directly at his son. Sethora's greatest strength was his knowledge. All he needed was to put it into practice.
It's not so much an exemption, Zesiro's gaze seemed to go into the distance, You were invited to come as a member of the Guardian ranks. Your sister, on the other hand...was forbidden from attending. Therefore, it is your choice.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, Zes wondered what his son's reaction would be if he was to attend a different wedding. He shook the thought away, as the rest of his visit required more tack and focus.
As for your attendance, it would officially induct you into the Guardian ranks and other titles, He said as if in passing, However, if you wish to have a more private manner of entering the legion and such, the ceremony is already being arranged for your sister. One can be arranged for you as well, if that is to your liking.

Sethora had been shuffling some papers around, though he was obviously listening intently. Suddenly, his purple eyes shot up to look at his father. Knowledge in use is power... A Guardian? So it is official? I had heard rumors that you were trying to get me into the Guardian ranks, but nothing more. Sethora sat back in his chair, thinking hard. He was, truly, much like his father, and was growing into the body of a young stallion easily. He was old enough to leave the Temple, if he wished, and go out into the world. And he was more than ready.
Father... what would occur if I were to not accept the rank of a Guardian? Sethora asked, voice mild in the inquiry.

So you have been listening to the monks, Zesiro noted, Unless, that is, you have another source in our ranks besides your sister? Even she was unaware of the entrance ceremony being prepared.
He studied his son's reaction, expecting excitement. His children had been preparing for this moment their whole lives. Where was smile or salute? His brows furrowed as his son moved into a territory he had not calculated.
Just what do you mean by that, Sethora? Zes stared at his son, composed, but inside baffled with disbelief, You've been preparing for this step your whole life. Generations of our family have climbed to the highest ranks in the order!
He started to raise himself out of the chair, You would practically be handed the General rank, what with our kind all but wiped out! He watched his son carefully, Just what would you intend to do if you were not to enter the Guardians?

Sethora's eyebrows furrowed. He did not like how he was being spoken to - it had been awhile since he had seen his father, and whether Zesiro realized it or not, his son was very different now than he had been several years ago. "My entire life?" Father... Sethora rubbed his forehead. How was he going to word this?
Father, for all of my life I have watched the Guardians and the Demons, the stallion began, his voice low and steady. He leaned forward. Hopefully, remaining calm would help his father see what he meant. Nothing but... well, Father, look at Sienna, my own sister, someone I perhaps know better than myself. Picking fights and causing unnecessary bloodshed, but she is opened into Guardian ranks with welcome arms! Is that the sort of image we Guardians wish to spread?

Zesiro rose from his seat with a start. His son, his own flesh and blood, almost outright refusing the position of a Guardian! It hurt not only his pride as one of the rank, but as a father as well. Had he not been a good enough example for his son, unlike his father did him? To become a Guardian was basically the inheritance of the Kendis family. If the clan was still alive, what would they say?
Yes, you should have been, He stared at his son, studying him more closely, To join the ranks as a Guardian is an honor---and your induction should have been earlier than this. We raised the age to give you and your sister a longer time to mature, and then this...!
Zesiro turned away, flabbergasted. Could his own son be turning against them?
Image? You are concerned about the image, of all things! He was hysterical behind his facade by now, Not of our duties? To protect those without the blessings of the elements, to guide those who have lost their way!
He countered his son's last statement, Your sister has been under orders for quite some time to seek out any demonic threats. She is our assassin, Sethora, a hand of judgement! He watched the expressions on his son's face, You have perverted the image, skewed it in a way to favor the enemy's side. Why do think like this? Why do you have a shred of sympathy for the demonic forces?

Sethora caught his father's stare and held it. Though his own face remained stern and calm, inside he began to feel an odd feeling an odd disappointment. He'd had such respect for his father... had he been entirely mistaken, too? He had thought his father possessed more sense, but now he understood how Sienna had become the ruthless warrior she was.
Excuse any offense these words may bring, Father, he began, still trying to remain calm and not fly off the handle as Zes was, but your long built-up hatred of the Demons blinds you to some realities. You see only what you want to see. Pureness was in no way a demonic threat; it was Sienna who started that battle, for no reason except that she saw a half-demon and believes all demonic blood should be eliminated. Father, that is nothing short of... genocide! Sienna goes to murder under the guise of doing her duty, and you and your Guardians support her!

Pureness was not a demonic threat? Now he knew his son didn't keep the tabs well enough. The child of Lothe and the demon had been a threat since her very birth---Akuma had always had the child in her sights.
Not a threat? The child came wandering out of Demon Country, unsuccessful with her mission under the title of Guardian-in-training, and after being in contact with Akuma's most well known recruiter! Zesiro shook his head, That child is no longer welcome in our forces for a reason, Sethora. She's too dangerous. She should have never been born.
His son was still young yet.
We do not eliminate all demons, son, Zes looked down at the scrolls on the desk, Only those that are a threat to the people we protect. Lesser demons with no ill will against us---they are some of our best informants. You have studied too long---you need field experience.

Sethora had heard enough. He stood up, eyes flashing with indignant anger. "Should never have been born?" If Pureness joins the demons, it will be due to the actions of you and the other Guardians, Father! he cried. Though he said it quickly, it was obvious that he meant the weight of every word. He truly did feel for Ren - a name he had hard far, far too often, always with the same kind of condescending and hateful, yet frightened connotation. If she joined the demons, he wouldn't have blamed her.
Perhaps I study too much, but you do not study enough, the young stallion said acidly. You act and expect others to follow you, often to your own blind folly. I, however, will not follow unquestioningly. You may have my support at times, but it will be by my own will, not by the Guardians' so-called expectations and self-proclaimed duties!
ooc | Woah... suddenly got a crazy SethxRen shipping... XD Kidding.

There is no question of her loyalities left, son, Zesiro shook his head, Her alignment is with her family, as is her father's. He was in support of our decision for not adding her into our ranks, Sethora.
He sighed. The natural features of a hardened war veteran showed in his face as he looked at his son, truly looked at his son. He should have paid more attention to him, and he knew that somewhere in his heart all along. He would not, however, support his idea of the child being born as a good thing. It was risky business that played right into the claws of the murderous wretch that destroyed everything of his past.
A new fire burned in his chest as his son continued with his retort.
Self-proclaimed? So-called? He spit the words out, his voice rough, You have not studied your roots at all, Sethora. Our duties have been put before us for ages as by rule of nature. Why do you reject your roots? Why are you studying, Sethora?
Zes watched his son with cold eyes. Just what had happened to make his own son, heir to the Kendis name, feel such a way?
((Lol, I see it! xD jk))

I reject what I do not agree with. And I do not agree with the ways and means of the Guardians, Sethora responded calmly. He'd realized that making a scene in the Temple library was probably not the wisest choice; if they kept it up, it would certainly alert the holy people, and he did not want them to see him losing his temper. So though he kept his voice soft, every word was deliberate.
I will make my own path, Father. Whatever that may be. Perhaps it will lead me to the Guardians. But it will be by my choice. The young stallion sighed. He suddenly felt much older than merely eighteen years. Then again, most young adults did not have to openly defy their fathers in situations like this. Looking at Sienna... you appear proud that she has taken the path she has, but someday you will turn around and find that your daughter has been replaced with a bloodthirsty killer. You are passionate, and that is good. But your passions often blind you, Father. You cannot see beyond what you imagine there to be... what you want there to be... He suddenly sounded sad. And I will not follow that path.
Sethora let out a sigh. He had let his eyes rove while he spoke, but now came to look at his father again, as if to say, You asked for an explanation... there it is.

You reject without knowing! Not once have you taken on a mission, and you go and say such...demoralizing things. Zesiro felt the deep, horrid pang in his heart. His son, possibly without even knowing it, was rejecting his heritage. It was almost too much for the old stallion to bear.
Well then, I think it's best for you to know now that there is one thing you will not be able to escape, Zesiro hardened his heart, prepared to reveal the news. This wasn't the way he wanted to present it, but he felt as if he had no other choice, Our FAMILY has been offered a place in the court of your Aunt Zefiryn as nobles. And, as the patriarch of this family, I have accepted the offer. We will all be nobility---as a family.
He didn't know what to expect for Seth's reaction. Sienna's was easily predictable, but his son was usually so much more soft-spoken around him.
What his son said next was too much for him.
You say such blasphemies about your own flesh and blood?! Zes's eyes grew wide in his anger, You call me blind, but even worse...you call your own sister a killer? Your sister, who has done nothing but protect society as under her orders!
Zesiro was close to stalking off in his rage. When had Sethora become this....this young stallion he no longer knew?
Fine, have it your way, Zesiro exhaled, his breath shaky, You can reject your family, your friends, your whole way of life for all I care----but you will not escape them. You have a new responsibility on your shoulders, and I expect you to present yourself as a noble now. If you don't...You might push me to show you what 'rejection' truly is...
He turned towards the stairs. He would not stand in this Temple any longer. He figured it was due time to see his lover, and rid himself from this pain that his son had instilled in his heart.
((Seth really got the old fuddy duddy riled up! xD))

Sethora blew out a breath, calmly taking his father's equally scathing words. How could such a sociable visit, which had started out neutrally enough, turn so painful? Never did I say I did not want to associate with my family, Father, he stated, voice even enough to almost pass as kind. This news... He had to close his eyes to separate the new piece of information from what had just occured.
Nobles. Violet eyes opened. I thought we were already considered nobles, or something of the like, being Guardians and all. I see I was mistaken. His voice was not obstinate, only genuinely interested.
