The last thing you were expecting was parallel lines of trumpeters. As you watch as a little Peophin walks between the musicians, you also ponder on how they all fit into your bedroom. The little Peophin approaches you with a smile across his little white muzzle, brown eyes shining with the joy of his delivery. He hands you a scroll without a word. He somehow signals to the fanfare to exit the room, and he follows soon after. After you are finished staring at the closed door, you turn your attention back to the scroll. The scroll is sealed with wax, imprinted with an unfamiliar coat of arms. Curious, you break the seal and unroll the parchment and reveal a strange letter:
To the Lucky Lover Who Has Received this Letter, Many congratulations, as you have been successfully paired with a wondrous partner for a stupendous holiday treat. Before you even think of tossing this scroll into your trash receptacle, please take note that this date is sponsored by the Kingdom of Aquari and is free of charge on behalf of the Make-Me-a-Match Foundation. If you enjoy the result of all of their hard work, they except donations in the form of neopoints, doubloons, and free advertising. The date set out for you is tailored to your interests, and your partner chosen by your answers to our wonderful online questionnaire. If you have any complaints, you should revisit your answers and check your honesty before consulting with the MMAMF personnel.
You skim over the rest of this section, as you notice it removes any form of liability on the kingdom and the foundation. After your quick skim, you reach the last paragraph of the letter with all of the information you need:
You are off to Terror Mountain for a couple’s ice skating competition! What better way to meet your match than out on the rink where teamwork is necessary for your victory! Free hot chocolate will be supplied if you need to calm your nerves. Not to worry, your names are on the list and a choice of costumes will be available for your big skating debut. Don’t forget to hand-select the perfect song for the performance! In case you are new to the rink, there will be a three hour time period where you can practice the basics before you work on your routine. A personal trainer will be on standby to assist you in the basics if needed! Your date will be meeting you outside of the rink at 10:00 this morning. The competition starts at 5:00!
Good luck and good ice, Queen Arynaiyae Royale of Aquari [/i][/right]

In defiance of the weather--and in spite of his mother's repeated instructions--the young Aisha was painfully underdressed for the winter conditions. He seemed to have missed the memo (in spite of it being clutched tightly in his hand) that they were going ice-skating and had worn a simple green jersey (as per his mother's demand and denim jeans. Still, he didn't seem particularly cold and in fact looked quite content as he approached the skating rink.
Being used to roller-blading on land, he figured ice skating probably wasn't too much different; he'd been a few times before, anyway, and it didn't look particularly challenging. The boy's olive eyes scanned briefly over the skaters already practising on the ice before he lost interest and approached the reception area. It wasn't that he'd had any particular desire to go on a date... but nor did he particularly care that he had ended up on one. He didn't seem nervous or excited, in other words, even if his mother had been positively delighted at the concept of him meeting a nice girl who might encourage him to settle down.
Still, as the lady at the front desk guided him over to the staff room and set a mug of hot chocolate down in front of him, promising to send his date through when she arrived, he found himself thinking it might not be so bad. Smiling to himself, the boy ran his hands lazily through his dark, tousled hair as if in a vague attempt at grooming.
Already, he was getting bored of sitting in one place. Hopefully, his date would offer interesting conversation at the very least.
ooc; sorry if this is rubbish; I think I'm still a little out of it after Christmas! xD

She could have killed Emil.
Not only had he gone and done this... no, though that was certainly bad enough!... no, it was more the fact that this was the second time he had insisted on doing this. Setting her up for a blind date! Could there be anything more ridiculous! And the idea that her father was in on it as well... The Pteri shook her head and muttered unpleasantries under her breath as she stomped along the snowy path. Not that Faeil was entirely opposed to dating, of course... but to have her captain and her father set her up on a date was completely humiliating.
Still, that was no reason to look bad. Faeilwyn was dressed particularly smart that day, with a jumper and short skirt, with leggings that went down to heeled boots. A scarf was wrapped around her neck, and a poncho-like cloak was draped over her shoulders. Faeil was fairly used to being cold--the sea could get pretty rough sometimes--so she reached the skating rink with little annoyance. As she stepped in, the receptionist took one glance at the letter clutched in Faeil's wing and seemed to know instantly what she was there for.
With barely a greeting, the receptionist was already ushering Faeilwyn towards a room--the door was labeled "Staff Only," which made Faeilwyn start to ask a question but quickly shut up because the receptionist was clearly not paying attention. Soon, Faeil found herself in the room, a cup of hot cocoa in her wings, alone... except for an Aisha lounging in one of the chairs.
Faeilwyn raised an eyebrow. Um... hi, she said awkwardly, her calculating pink eyes taking in the Neopet.

It had taken Sin all of two minutes to get bored of sitting still and to stand up again, pacing the room to examine the various posters and such hung up around it. All the skaters looked so graceful, so delicate... so boring! Man, if his date was going to try forcing him into some sissy prince outfit, he was just going to leave. In fact, if his date was going to try to force him into doing anything he was going to leave. His mother did enough micromanaging without some random girl (or guy, he supposed--it wasn't impossible, right?) doing it as well. Sighing, he slumped back down in his chair and propped his feet up (rudely) on the table.
Suddenly, the Aisha's 'stalk'-ears swivelled toward the sound of the door opening. He whipped his head around quickly, a cheerful smile already on his face. "Hi! We're going skating, right?" He stood up quickly, already sick of sitting down again. His cocoa had been cheerfully forgotten on the table. "I don't come skating very much, but it's okay. You don't look like you're from here, either."
...Oh, right. Manners. Those things Mom talked about sometimes. "My name's Sin! It's nice to, uh... meet you, and stuff!"
ooc; sorry this took a wee while. >: i've been doing lots of shopping for school, hahaha. <3

Faeil was almost thrown off by this Aisha's speedy greeting--geez, all she'd said was hello! After a minute of Sin's rambling, however, Faeilwyn began to feel herself relax. There was friendliness in his chatter, something Faeil had missed during her time on Emil's ship. Most of the crew were young adults or older, so she rarely had someone her age to talk to. Seasoned sailors really couldn't replace the laid-back antics of teenagers.
Haha, I guess we're going skating, unless you were planning on sitting and drinking hot chocolate all afternoon! Faeilwyn said, grinning despite herself. There was something in Sin's manner that just put her at ease. Yeah, nice to meet you, too. I'm Faeilwyn, by the way. Still smiling a little like a loony, Faeil suddenly caught herself. She couldn't remember the last time she had smiled so easily! Feeling a little foolish, Faeilwyn's face became a bit more impassive. Ah... anyway, wanna head out? she asked, motioning towards the door.

"That's a pretty name. But it's long. I'm going to call you just Faeil. That cool?" Though he'd certainly had his misgivings at first- a blind date? Really? Ugh!- the Aisha found himself warming to the situation rather quickly. She seemed nice and fun and pretty and really, what else mattered? He beamed at her with utterly childish enthusiasm, having already discarded his half empty mug on the table.
"No way!" He laughed brightly; but the Aisha, however lively, seemed to have an almost unsettling habit of staring. He didn't seem to have broken eye contact once. As someone who saw himself as having nothing to hide, it simply did not occur to him to allow others their space. "Sure, if you're ready. I mean, if there are other people here, we probably have to get in quick if we want good costumes! So I guess we'd better work out what we want to do, right?" There was a pause before the Aisha allowed himself a little smirk. "I'm a pretty good dancer, you know. So this can't be too hard, right?"

Faeil's fine, Faeilwyn replied with a small smile. She probably would have told Sin to call her that anyway, it but was nice to see him catch on quickly himself. She beamed back at him, pleased to be around someone who seemed up to having a carefree good time. Faeil couldn't even remember the last time she'd just let loose around someone. Why not just let go and have a bit of fun with this?
Since we want to get the best costumes, maybe we should pick up those first? the Pteri suggested as she and Sin walked out of the room and made their way towards the rink. There was a large directory showing where everything was; the rink was directly ahead of them, whereas the costume room was up a ramp to the left.
