-I dream’d a dream to-night...
-And so did I.
-Well, what was yours?
-That dreamers often lie.
She Is The Fairies' Midwife
Name: Queen Mab
Nicknames: Mab
Gender: Female
Age: Don't ask.
Race: Immortal, Fairy
Alliance: Chaotic-Neutral
Occupation: Dream Manipulator
Homeland: Heavens of the Immortals
Through lovers’ brains, and then they dream of love...
Love: None
Preference: Males
Children: Noumir (Fate) -legasp-
Status: Single
Personality: (Ruan speaking) Seductive and charming, manipulative and cold, she's untrusting and untrustworthy... never fall for her tricks, for she shall trick you! But it is very hard not to believe her, she seems to be so sincere... however, she hardly cares a wisp about you. She's not the least bit gentle or sympathetic, and she's been around for too long to waste emotion on anything. She herself does not believe in true love, not really, and the lovers she takes do not last long. She's beautiful and deceitful, and she likes it.
Likes: Kisses, chocolate, wine, dreams, sleeping, nighttime, her chariot, manipulating dreams, seducing
Dislikes: Dirtiness, children, goody-two-shoes, "true love", Noumir
This is that very Mab/That plats the manes of horses in the night...
Mother: Unknown
Father: Unknown
Siblings: None
History: Her past is completely unknown, and even she doesn't know where she comes from, but that's perfectly all right with Queen Mab. As soon as she started her job, that was all she cared about. She created her own chariot and the terrible creatures that drive it. She has soared through ages and ages, time and fantasy, fiction and truth... through mind and consciousness, death and life...
Having the power to manipulate her own appearance, Queen Mab appeared to many people as a full grown woman, though her normal appearance is that of a sprite. She grew to love being like a real human, and just how much manipulation a simple human could do, just as much as she could in her true form.
Things changed for Queen Mab when she found she was with child. Her world crashed. She disappeared from Earth for a long time, and when she reappeared and continued her work, the child was gone, and there was a whisper that something had occured in the Heavens above...
Queen Mab does not acknowledge the child that she left in the care of two of her Immortal friends in the Heavens. The child was a mistake, after all. Why should she?
...And she comes
In shape no bigger than an agate-stone...
Design:
The clothes are of the finest velvet, the richest material. Her whip is sharp and cruel, and her eyes show no brightness. The necklace she bears is that of a long-ago lover. The story behind it is not yet known...
She has no wings when she is in her Peophin form because it is not her True Form, just like when she is Human. She has them only when she is in her True sprite fairy form.
Also, there is no shading on this picture. Her pelt is of the deepest red, and there is only highlighting. There are no shadows about her figure.
Human:
The Poem: Everything in the above picture is as loyal to Shakespeare's famous Queen Mab poem as I could make it, and is posted here. It is delivered by Mercutio in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
O, then, I see Queen Mab hath been with you.
She is the fairies’ midwife, and she comes
In shape no bigger than an agate-stone
On the fore-finger of an alderman,
Drawn with a team of little atomies
Athwart men’s noses as they lie asleep;
Her wagon-spokes made of long spiders’ legs,
The cover of the wings of grasshoppers,
The traces of the smallest spider’s web,
The collars of the moonshine’s watery beams,
Her whip of cricket’s bone, the lash of film,
Her wagoner a small grey-coated gnat,
Not so big as a round little worm
Prick’d from the lazy finger of a maid;
Her chariot is an empty hazel-nut
Made by the joiner squirrel or old grub,
Time out o’ mind the fairies’ coachmakers.
And in this state she gallops night by night
Through lovers’ brains, and then they dream of love;
O’er courtiers’ knees, that dream on court’sies straight,
O’er lawyers’ fingers, who straight dream on fees,
O’er ladies ‘ lips, who straight on kisses dream,
Which oft the angry Mab with blisters plagues,
Because their breaths with sweetmeats tainted are:
Sometime she gallops o’er a courtier’s nose,
And then dreams he of smelling out a suit;
And sometime comes she with a tithe-pig’s tail
Tickling a parson’s nose as a’ lies asleep,
Then dreams, he of another benefice:
Sometime she driveth o’er a soldier’s neck,
And then dreams he of cutting foreign throats,
Of breaches, ambuscadoes, Spanish blades,
Of healths five-fathom deep; and then anon
Drums in his ear, at which he starts and wakes,
And being thus frighted swears a prayer or two
And sleeps again. This is that very Mab
That plats the manes of horses in the night,
And bakes the elflocks in foul sluttish hairs,
Which once untangled, much misfortune bodes:
This is the hag, when maids lie on their backs,
That presses them and learns them first to bear,
Making them women of good carriage:
This is she--...
Role-play: Open!!
NOTE: Queen Mab is not a Neopets character (yet... I'm considering it...); she is for Stalking Grounds purposes only, more'n likely. If you wanna role-play, we'll probably do it here.
(She has no song because she has a poem.)
We're reading Romeo and Juliet in English class, and I just fell in love with Queen Mab's description. Well. What say you?
True, I talk of dreams,
Which are the children of an idle brain,
Begot of nothing but vain fantasy,
Which is as thin of substance as the air
And more inconstant than the wind, who wooes
Even now the frozen bosom of the north,
And, being anger’d, puffs away from thence,
Turning his face to the dew-dropping south...
