In Mem's mind, all the Lupess was doing was confirming her first thought. No one would be this catty unless they needed a spa day- unless they were Ance, but that was totally different. And what would you do at home? Spend your time alone, maybe with a book and a bubble bath? You can do the same thing at the spa, but they give massages! Her eyes glittered, and she still refused to let go of Felicity's paw until she gave in.
At a prior law firm, she'd been an ambulance chaser.
This IS worthwhile. When was the last time you actually pampered yourself? In reality, Felicity was nothing compared to Rayneance. She was a NEWBIE in the game of being unpleasant compared to that mare. Her face softened, simply waiting for a response... as she decided to drag the Lupe off to the spa anyway. Listening to soft music while being pampered and told you had beautiful skin was NEVER a bad thing.

Felicity, recognizing that Mem would not take "no" for an answer, finally sighed and stopped fighting. Whatever. It was only one evening; then maybe this stupid Peophin would get off her back! I've no need to "pamper" myself. That's for shallow, stupid females. But seeing as I have no choice... all right, fine, she consented. Lead the way. She could only imagine the looks of the people who knew her if they caught her in a day spa. Felicity didn't care what people thought of her, but the connotations that came with "day spa" made her want to sink into the ground from humiliation.

Mem grinned, knowing she'd won, and released the Lupess from her grip as they entered the day spa. She laid down a small purse of doubloons, which sent the Ixi at the counter sprawling to get a few attendants at the ready. I promise you won't regret this, she said. My sister-in-law threatened to send me to one of Kreludor's craters when I took her to a day spa for the first time. Now she goes once a month- I wound up buying her a lifetime membership because she'd nearly gone broke visiting the one in Brightvale. She grinned, excited about her upcoming mud facial.
I also promise that you won't come out of here looking like a diva- they don't do hair and makeup at this chain. Mem knew that was the dealbreaker for a lot of her friends- some of them refused to look like an uptown Neopia Central snob, but upon their first treatment, their minds were changed. She, for once, finally shut up to let Felicity get her own take on the simple, calming atmosphere as four small, shy female Neopets stood patiently, awaiting commands from their Ixi boss.

Right, Felicity muttered, glaring daggers at Mem. She knew one thing for certain - she wouldn't be caught dead in a day spa after today. Even if she could afford them. And she was growing steadily more and more tired of Mem's constant blathering on - didn't she see that not everyone was as privileged as she was?
So... what happens now? Felicity asked after Mem had payed, looking about the day spa with suspicious eyes. The people and Neopets didn't seem too perturbed by her demeanor - maybe that got people like her all the time.

Mem got an odd, shiny glaze in her eyes, as if mesmerized by the whole process. Now, we follow these nice, young ladies into the preparation room. There, we'll put on super fluffy white robes in dressing rooms. It was obvious that the mare was enjoying herself already- and relaxing. Thankfully.
Until, of course, shouting could be heard from the Mud Room. Mem's head snapped in that direction, ears perked.
I TOLD YOU, I DON'T WANT THE BLOODY GARBAGE! The voice reverberated through the spa, and it wasn't one that Mem recognised.

Who is that? Felicity exclaimed, her head turning towards where the sound was coming from. It was hard to pinpoint, though; she couldn't tell exactly where the shout had come from. Maybe whoever it was would provide some excuse for getting her out of this torture.

Mem dashed off in the direction of the shouting to see one HUGE pirate queen Skeith berating a rather timid (and terrified) Aisha. The mare couldn't quite tell if the Skeith was already covered in mud or not, but judging by the fact that there was mud literally everywhere, the Skeith wasn't pleased with it. Yeah, there was a difference between clean mud and unclean mud... but she thought this particular female was taking it a bit too far.
Until she saw the flies swarming around the mudbaths. Uh... Felicity? she said, steadily gaining an unhealthy eye twitch. Perhaps... the spa wasn't such a good idea, after all. She looked like she was about ready to grab a fly swatter and go on an insect massacre- but she didn't really care. This was GROSS.

Felicity rounded the corner and peered over Mem's shoulder, then raised her eyebrows. Um... what exactly is so fantastic about day spas, again? she asked skeptically, eyes going from the pirate Skeith to the Aisha to the disgusting mess. She wasn't especially nauseated - after all, she lived amongst the cesspool of Krawk Island - but she was not climbing into that pool even if someone paid her. Well... maybe if someone paid her.

Mem slowly began backing up, making sure she didn't run into Felicity on the way out. Um... normally they're much better than.. OH FYORA what is that smell?! She grabbed on to Felicity again- though not as tightly as before. It was probably a good thing, though, as the giant Skeith was now flinging the mud at the doorway, aiming for anyone who cared to look in on the spectacle.
Oh my goodness, that smelled like rotten fish poop! Mem took a deep breath when she finally opened her eyes (and her trachea) outside of the building. She took in gallons upon gallons of fresh air, her eyes bloodshot from holding her breath for so long. I walked almost the entire area of the dregs of Krawk Island, and not once did I smell anything remotely like that... that giant tub of crap they were calling mud. She looked at Felicity, like she might have an explanation as to... whatever that stuff was.
Sorry it took so long- I hadn't been in the mood to RP ^^;

Felicity now felt certain that if Mem kept this racket up, her arm would practically be pulled out of its socket! Don't give me that look, the Lupess snapped, also gasping in air like Mem and obviously even crosser than before. How in Nox's name should I know? I don't come to this side of town! It's nothing but tourists over here, and people smart enough to take advantage of them. She snorted at the thought of that beauty parlor - sure, the Skeith may have raised a racket, but if that place had the funds to stay in business, it was obviously managing to con money out of stupider Neopets.
Now, do you think you've tortured me enough for one day? Felicity went on, sneering.
ooc | No prob. =)

Mem lifted an eyebrow. Well, yeah, since you live on this island and I, quite obviously, don't. The horrific smell began seeping out of the day spa even further now, sending even the workers sprawling for fresh air. And... torture? Really, now, I was trying to do something NICE for you. How was I to know that the damn place was going to be fumigated by some... some... horrific gaseous substance that could kill all the local wildlife? She coughed a fair bit, quite certain that, at this point, she was going to die.
You, she continued between coughs, still need to learn how to relax and not be such a terrible person! There. She'd said it. She was past the point of being nice- honesty usually got on faster than trying to NICE the nice out of someone. You might be perfectly fine with it, but being flat out rude is a great way to get socked by a pirate.

I didn't ask for you to be nice to me! Felicity exclaimed, wrenching her arm out of Mem's grip. If you don't like it, you can leave!
With that, the Lupess spun round and crossed her arms, letting out an annoyed huff. Deep down, though, she couldn't help but feel a slight pang of guilt. Mem was bothersome and - in Felicity's mind still - shallow, but she treated Felicity much more kindly than anyone had in a long time. And Felicity was pushing her away as cruelly as she did those who were just as cruel back. Felicity was smart enough, and she knew that her actions weren't right or fair.
But she just felt as though she couldn't help it. Felicity visibly wilted, her stiff stance slackening a bit.

Mem's head cocked to the side, noticing the immediate change in the female's demeanor. She also immediately felt as if she'd broken the poor thing. Usually, she found, anyone with a hard outer core was simply protecting a gentle spirit within. Rough lives tended to break the weakest of them- but this Lupe somehow survived. It was a phenomenon that fascinated Mem.
Much gentler than she had been before, she said Are you going to be alright? Though Mem in her work (both jobs) wasn't met with a lot of compassion herself, she was certainly raised to express it. Her dad had, at least, taught her that much. Come on, let's get out of here.
-literally had no idea that Mem was compassionate at all- XD

Felicity twitched slightly at Mem's voice. What was wrong with this Peophin? Was it impossible for her to take a hint? I'm fine, she said, but the snap had gone out of her voice. Unbelievably, there seemed to be a flash of a smile as she turned her head, but it was gone as soon as it had come.
Um... "get out of here"? And go where, exactly? Felicity asked suspiciously, eyeing Mem. If she was suggesting anywhere like the day spa, Felicity was out of there quicker than a Snowbunny on a date.

Mem could have said that she had thought long and hard about a plan B in case Felicity decided to abandon the day spa plan, but she'd of been lying. Hard. I propose a trip to a bar- anything but the Drunken Sailor, since that's where my dad hangs out. And someplace with a restaurant- I'm STARVING! Normally, the pretty mare wouldn't be caught dead in a bar. But after dealing with that smell and the wailing of the giant Skeith, she needed a beer. Usually, just the one would work- alcoholism was not something she wanted to contend with.
You pick, she offered. She'd probably already stressed the Lupess out enough- she didn't want to pick the one bar on the island that would send Felicity over the edge.

Felicity, perhaps to Mem's surprise, made a face at the suggestion of going to a bar. Fyora save me. I work at a bar. I don't go to them for recreation, she said in disgust. She didn't know what Mem's preconceptions about her were, but Felicity knew herself pretty well. Unlike a lot of barmaids she was acquainted with, she considerd bars as nothing more than means of making neopoints. And not in the way most females made their neopoints at bars.
Suddenly, she smiled. Why don't we pay a visit to Smuggler's Cove? Might be something interesting there, Felicity suggested.

YAY NO MORE FEVER sorry this took so long, but my mother was five minutes away from taking me to the hospital if I didn't get my fever down by today so all is good. XD
Mem nodded, totally understanding. I worked at one to get myself through college- for a few years there, I couldn't even walk into a bar without my stomach turning. She watched Felicity's smile, almost worried about the idea the Lupess would be forming in that quick mind of hers.
Being that her father had always kept 'pretties' around the house, Mem had, in a way, carried on the tradition- buying trinkets and painfully expensive items from around the world to put into her Treasure Room. She'd only ever heard of the things that came in to Smuggler's Cove- and getting the chance to come and see where some of Neopia's rarest and most treasured items came in from was something she simply could not pass up. She returned the smile as she spoke. Smuggler's Cove might be the best idea I've heard all day.

ooc | No prob! I'm glad you're feeling better. ^^
Felicity blinked and nodded; her thoughts were, once again, completely masked behind her face. If she thought any differently of Mem from the mare's last statement, she didn't let it show. It's been a pretty poor day if the best suggestion so far hsa been Smuggler's Cove, the Lupe offered with a chuckle, for a moment actually sounding friendly. Who would have guessed Felicity might have actually had a sense of humor? Even Felicity was somewhat taken aback by her own words.
Well, it's not too far off. Over towards the rocks near the beach, Felicity continued, leading Mem down the crowded street and (thankfully) farther aawy from the failed beauty parlor.

Thank you ^_^ I'm still feeling some of the aftershocks that no one tells you about after you're sick, but I figure being able to sit upright is an improvement. XD.
Mem's eyes got the war-hardened look that only a lawyer could perfect without ever having seen bloodshed when she answered (rather deadpan), Oh, you have no idea. She laughed, however, thinking of the debacle at the spa. The spa was really just the icing on the cake, she insisted. You should have seen the guy who escorted me off the boat this morning- poor guy got a reaming. She bit her lip, trying to bite back the laughter that came to the brim of her mouth at the thought of the portly Kyrii. As a rule, she despised the morbidly obese. The Kyrii was no exception and for five minutes, she let him know EXACTLY what she thought of the boat-ride over.
She doubted he'd ask "How was your trip" ever again.
Mem looked ahead at the copse, wondering exactly how one might get into the cove. She assumed she'd have to walk through the (ick) briny saltwater- but hey, if it glittered, she'd walk through mud in her Jimi Choo boots. She took that back. Maybe her Manolos.

ooc | I LOVED your last post here, Frosty. <3 Mem is so cute. Well, maybe "cute" isn't the right word, but I can't think of another one. xD
ic | Felicity smiled politely at Mem's comment, but said nothing in response. Oh, wait, the Lupess said suddenly, turning around and scrutinizing the streets with a careful eye. ...No, Smuggler's Cove is this way, Felicity finally said sheepishly, motioning the opposite way she had shown before. We'll just have to go through town, then towards the cliffsides. The caves face away from the water on that side of the island. Sounding, for the first time, almost light-hearted, Felicity smiled again and led the way down the crowded late afternoon streets.
