Mem stared dumbly at the choice of clothing before her. People actually WORE this crap?! Not completely able to hide her disgust with peasant wear (there really was no other word for it), she carefully walked out of the 'boutique' with a curse just under her breath.
She was going to kill Simitra for suggesting that this might be a good place for a vacation. Habeas corpus, after all. Still not entirely impressed with the area, she just wanted to go back to her motel room (which looked like a pay-by-the-hour and made her feel like they were robbing her) and wipe off the fish smell. For good.
Worse yet, her father was in town. For once. She wondered if the Fates were having fun at her expense or were just on vacation as she continued walking down the somewhat empty boardwalk. It didn't strike her as eerie at all that no one was here... she chalked it up to the fact that this place smelled to high heaven and people were finally getting the hint that it was an horrific place to live.
She was wrong. She took no heed to the fact that her dad was in town and there was no one on the streets- she simply didn't know that most of the locals were scared witless of the imposing, threatening-looking stallion who hadn't ACTUALLY killed anyone in years. Eons, even. Good riddance, she said aloud, picking at a piece of cloth at an open- yet empty- booth.
What she did find odd, however, was that this fabric booth in the middle of a piratical island was running on an honour system. What the heck?

Felicity, I know your shift's over, but -
But what, Yagir? The Grundo stepped back at the cold voice that snapped at him, interrupting his question. The innkeeper tried to pull himself together, but he always found that talking to Felicity was nothing if not unnerving.
You... ahem, that is... I know you just finished your shift, but I was wondering if ye wouldn't mind staying for the evening, doll, Yagir attempted to drawl, leaning over the counter and putting on what he appeared to believe a kind smile.
My shift's over. I'm leaving, the Lupess he was addressing said bluntly, folding up her apron. I'm done serving idiots for the day. Her face remained impassive as she saw her boss's disgusting smile turn into a glower. She wasn't scared - he wouldn't fire her. She was a hard worker and did her job with little complaint, but she also had a will of iron.
Fine. Tomorrow evening, then, Yagir growled, turning away.
Felicity didn't bother replying, but merely turned round and marched out of the bar. She had been cooped up in the disgusting inn all day, and had been kept so busy that she hadn't even heard any gossip or news. So she was vaguely disturbed when she walked out and saw absolutely no one on the streets. It was only early evening. Where were the crowds?

Mem stretched, leaving a few dozen doubloons in the money basket after having purchased some rather pretty satin cloth. The pale blue fabric would make for some incredible pillow cases- which were about the only thing she knew how to make. Rectangle, rectangle, fold, fold, hem two inches on both folds, sew the damn things together. That, and she either would tick off the booth's owner or make them very happy- her dad had explained the conversion rates once, but she hadn't been listening. Math bored her stupid. She had tossed the fabric on to her back, hoping the slick material wouldn't slide as satin was so wont to do. If it did, oh well. That's what washing machines were for- not that she'd find one here, she thought.
Looking up, she happened to see the port, with a large, dark ship unloading. Oh. That explains it. She shrugged upon seeing The Fortune's name emblazoned in gold on the side of the ship, just hoping that the ship's dark captain didn't happen to see her. Or recognise her. Perhaps she should pretend she practiced purdah and cover herself...?
That be an evil ship, Lassie- ye best not be standin' 'round too long, yet. Th' Ca'pn'll likely eat yeh fer his supper! an old Krawk warned, his beard yellowed with tobacco stains and only Fyora knew what.
Mem was amused. The only way a legend like that could be spread around would be if her father wanted to be left alone- and if he was still as standoffish as he was when she was growing up, the legend would live on for years to come- and all of it a hoax. Thanks, sir- I'll keep that in mind, she said aimlessly. It was all she could say, after all. No one wanted to imagine that Captain Sorrov of the 'cursed ship' Fortune had ever bounced twin girls on his knees, or that the pistol he now carried was the same one he threatened all of Noir's boyfriends with growing up. She continued walking along, on this same stream of thought, until she ran into someone. Crap, not again! Sorry, Miss!

Suddenly, Felicity found herself slamming into what was probably the only other person on the street. Fyora...! Curse it! the Lupess snapped, shoving herself away from the Neopet that had run into her. Her yellow eyes took in the Peophin. She glared. Not a problem. Just watch it next time, Felicity replied.
She didn't care for the look of this mare at all. At the very least, she didn't look like someone you usually saw on Krawk Island. A fish out of water... no pun intended. I'd think you'd have the whole street to yourself. Seems like no one else is out, Felicity observed, crossing her arms and thrusting a hip out.

Mem glared at the Lupess. This was not the right day. For. This. From what I recall, you weren't exactly paying attention, either. Seeing her father on deck just a second into the other Neopet's sentence had soured her mood considerably.
As for the reason no one's out, take a look at what the waves brought in, she said, inclining her head towards the intimidating ship. As if to prove her point, some of the surlier crew members began throwing crates and treasure chests down onto the docks- they bounced once, but due to their weight they didn't go far. Wonder which part of Neopia they ravaged this time, she said nonchalantly. She wasn't actually concerned with it, really- whatever floated his boat. Err. Ship. She shirked a bit, realising that she'd blown up a bit at the other female without meaning to. She couldn't really pass judgement. Anyhow, that's what distracted me. Gotta get inside where it's safe, ya'know? It was unlikely that the Lupess would buy her excuse, but hey. It was worth a shot.

Felicity frowned, but remained silent. The Peophin had a point, after all. Following the nod of her head, Felicity looked past her towards the ship that had come into port. They must have just come in today. I haven't had a single moment to myself since daybreak, she commented, crossing her arms as she watched the crew unload. They certainly weren't a happy-looking bunch, but Felicity had lived on Krawk Island for quite awhile now, and she didn't see what all the fuss was about. Surely folk just as unpleasant came through all the time. Why should I be so scared of them? Just another ship of disgusting pirates and pillagers. They'll come in, make a fuss, terrorize the neighborhood a bit, then leave.

Sorry this one took so long- I've been editing a book. XD
Mem was further amused, but didn't show it. I dunno, miss, I've heard that the crew of The Fortune is as rude, crude, and socially unacceptable as they come. Just today, actually- an old Krawk warned me. Inwardly, she was enjoying herself immensely. She was just glad that her acting skills were up to par. She squinted, once again seeing the intimidating Darigan Peophin barking orders at his crew- who didn't seem to be listening all that well.
Heard that the Captain used to eat people in the orphanage where he grew up. Alright, so that part WAS true- but he'd gotten out of that habit with a lot of counselling and years of therapy. She shrugged, as if to literally shrug off the whole piratey thing they had going on here on the island.

ooc | No prob! ^^
ic | Felicity laughed when Mem said "rude, crude, and socially unacceptable." That just about summed up all of Krawk Island as a whole, the miserable island! And Felicity wasn't beyond perhaps including herself in the description. What people do is their business. As long as they leave me be, it's not my business, she remarked, her voice as cold as her eyes. Even her smile had no warmth in it.
So I guess the next question is, why are you still out here, miss? Felicity continued, narrowing her eyes at the Peophin. Maybe you're part of that crew, out here putting on a show for everyone. One thing about Felicity, she wasn't a fool, and there was something fishy about this mare. Even as she said the words, she could see some of The Fortune's crew disembarking from their ship.

typing from my phone. no color or bold type for this post xD
Mem's brow lifted curiously at the mention of her being part of the crew. "Not in a million years or for half my net worth would you ever catch me dead on a pirate ship. I mean... dont they have... er... RATS?!" She shuddered. "I am just here because someone mistakenly told me that this place would be a much better vacation spot than Mystery Island. I may beat them into a pulp when I get off this foresaken island."
She turned away from the ship, looking directly at the Lupess. "You know of anything to do here, other than getting drunk or watching ships embark and disembark?" she asked hopefully. She was here for a week- this was her first day and she was already bored stupid. "The shopping sort of sucks here too." She lifted the satin cloth gently. "Two hours got me this. I feel ripped off. Back home I could of had seven new pairs of shoes and a new set of clothes." She and her youngest niece, Xena, had timed it once.

Felicity raised an eyebrow. Something about this mare was weird, but she had no idea what. It could be her instincts were wrong, of course, but somehow the exclamation about rats struck Felicity as being odd. How can someone go from being scared of rats to beating someone to a pulp? the Lupe wondered to herself.
Well, if your friend told you this side of the island is good for tours, they must have been playing a foul trick on you, she said. The only decent place on this godforsaken island is the one side where the Training Academy and such are. That's where all the tourists go. You must be pretty daft to not know that. She wasn't about to go show this mare the other side of the island, of course. But maybe that would get the silly Peophin out of her way. She had better things to do today.

Well, people obviously train here. I've already been to that side- it still smelled funny. She heard someone calling her name and immediately panicked. On the other hand maybeyoucanshowmesomewhereIhaven'tseenyet? It came out far faster than she should have, but if anyone looked close enough, they would see a striking resemblance between the mare and the pirate captain who was beginning to walk this way. She was obviously beginning to panic, not wanting to talk with the pirates or be seen anywhere near them.
Seriously? The mare was beginning to sweat a little, totally unable to relax now. Perhaps we could do something to help you relax or anything to get away from this side of Krawk Island? Mem hoped that the other pet would get the hint- she'd explain more about it on the way out of here. Sorrov had about two hundred yards to cover before he'd get to where they were- but being well over 19hh, he'd make it in no time- Mem hoped someone dropped something important to distract him for the time being.

Felicity took a step back at the sudden switch in the mare's demeanor. Normally she wouldn't have bothered, but perhaps it was the rush of excitement that encouraged her to grab the Peophin's hoof and begin pulling her down the street. This way, Felicity instructed, slipping down an alley so that they were out of sight of the main street and the docks.
Stay close. And watch your goods. I'll lead you to the main square, Felicity instructed sternly as she let go of the Peophin's hoof and began leading her down the closed-in streets. The smell away from the main road increased tenfold, but Felicity seemed unperturbed by this; after all, she had to live in it. I hope you'll give me the benefit of what the hell is going on once I lead you out of here, the Lupess growled.

Mem sighed, thankful to be out of view of her dad. Alright, so I wasn't entirely honest with you- I DO know the pirates on that ship. Quite well, actually- I had to stay on the damn thing for two months once for 'bonding time'. Her face screwed up in displeasure, and she shook the look off. Anyhow, the huge, menacing-looking one? That I said ate people when he was little? By Fyora this sounds like a horrible mystery novel, she said derisively, but continued. Is my DAD. Thinking back on it, Simitra probably just wanted me to be here to talk to him more- but he constantly assumes I'm still a filly and treats me like one. He's going to freak out if he sees that I'm here on my own with no one to 'protect' me. She was, at this point, utterly disgusted- and out of breath.
So now you see why I don't want to talk with him, see him, or want him to really know I'm here, she said softly. My name's Memory- Mem for short, by the way. She felt foolish just because she hadn't introduced herself just yet. And thank you, she said with honesty. There's a whole laundry list of reasons I don't want to talk to him, but I won't bore you with the skeletons in that basket.

Felicity raised an eyebrow. Fyora's staff, she hadn't expected a fully detailed explanation right this minute. This Peophin was really a chatterbox. Somehow, I'm not at all surprised, Felicity said as she took another sharp left. Anyone who hadn't lived on Krawk Island for years would have been completely lost, but Felicity padded along with ease and confidence. If you wanted to survive on Krawk Island, it was essential that you knew the island like the back of your hand.
I suppose while we're introducing ourselves, I might as well tell you my name. I'm Felicity. Felicity will do. Her yellow eyes went back to look at Mem coldly, appraising her. Hm. Overprotective father. So you're rebelling or something? she asked, smiling somewhat sarcastically.

Mem truly WAS a chatterbox, and despite often being told to shut up, she rarely did. Goodness, no. I'm an adult- have been for years now. But when you're in your late twenties and your dad still treats you like you're six, you're bound to not want to talk to him. Ever. Mem was quite puzzled as to where they were going, but she had to trust that the Lupe knew where she was going.
So, you mentioned earlier that pirates raid the town and destroy it when they come in? This was totally out of Mem's experience with pirates- the crew of The Fortune was actually pretty decent- if not secretive. I... would hate to live here, if that happens every time a pirate crew comes in. I mean... Krawk Island is a PIRATE island, after all. The thought of her beloved Brightvale being rampaged by invaders every day was sickening- but then, it had to be the difference between growing up in a peaceful community of learned people and growing up... well. Here.

Felicity nodded, only vaguely listening, as Mem went on about her relationship with her father. Felicity hadn't exactly had a "normal" childhood, so such things were beyond her, and she really didn't care to expand her knowledge. Oh, they don't destroy the place, she replied when she realized Mem had asked her a question. Ships that come in after being away for awhile usually make a big fuss, though. Like to let the entire island know they're here. She rolled her eyes. Keep us awake for an entire week, just being loud and drunk in the streets and filling up the bars so they can shout their tall tales and waste their money on ale and women.
The disgust in her voice was blatant. As a barmaid, she'd been on the direct receiving end of such treatment, after all. Makes the place seem almost nice when they finally get their sorry butts to sea again, Felicity added sarcastically, snorting.
Ah - here we are. A few more steps, and the two emerged from between two buildings. The air here was a tad cleaner, and more respectable-looking pets and owners could be seen walking the streets.

That'd tick me off, too. I enjoy my sleep too much. She was pleased to see that this side of Krawk Island was much more to her tastes than the other side. She relaxed a little, knowing her dad wouldn't be caught dead here, mostly because of the amount of people here. At least now we know where everyone went! she said with much delight.
Now, if I were a day spa, I'd be... she squinted, scanning the area. THERE. She pointed to Le Muire's Sun and Sand Spa, refusing to say it out loud because of the alliteration. Come on, Felicity, we need to go THERE. Never one to give someone else a say in the matter, she wrapped her tail around the Lupess's arm to drag her. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, this fellow female was GOING to relax if it killed her.
Goodness I love how bold she is XD

Felicity sighed. She had every intention to leave Mem by herself now that she had finally led her out of the more unsavory areas of Krawk Island, but suddenly found herself being dragged along! Excuse me, what in Fyora's name are you doing?! the Lupess snapped, trying to wrench her paw out of Mem's tail grasp.
I have no interest in your silly day spas! Leave me be at once! Felicity continued to sputter. When had she ever shown the slighest inclination towards wanting to "relax"?!

LOL Sorry this took so long... I was busy buying a lab map, adopting a pet to zap, and a petpet lab map. I'm not broke 8DD
Mem lifted her eyebrow once more. Seriously? Not a chance, mi amiga. You've nearly bitten my head off three times now and your shoulders are hunched around your ears. If nothing else, Mem was stubborn. She smiled, revealing two rows of teeth that had fairly obviously been bleached recently. Weren't you JUST saying you hadn't had any time for yourself all day? She also had no problem throwing someone's words back at them if it suited her purpose. She was, after all, a lawyer- that was half of her job.
Now. You can either come with me and TRY to relax, or wonder why you have a massive headache later on tonight. If you don't like it, fine- it's not like you'll be wasting your OWN money, she offered. You'll just of spent two hours of your life in sheer luxury- not a bad waste of time, if you ask me, she finished. She waited for Felicity's response, knowing it would probably come with a bite. She was prepared for it, though.

Unlike yourself, I spend my free time on something actually worthwhile, unlike this foolishness, Felicity said haughtily, giving her paw another wrench from Mem's tail (and once again proving unsuccessful - geez, that Peophin had a grip!). I can't posibly think of a bigger waste of time, honestly.
Half the reason Felicity was being so rude was just to see if she could maybe scare Mem off. After all, who wanted to spend the evening at a day spa with someone foul-mouthed and unpleasant? Felicity wasn't planning on seeing Mem again, so she didn't care what the Peophin thought of her. If the cursed Neopet would just let me go, the Lupe thought to herself, grinding her teeth.
